I used to respect Walter just because he was such a presence when I was a kid. He was always one of those who reminded you of your grandfather. Kind of a patriarchal type. Everything was alright as long as Walter said it was. There was no cable and news channels blah blah blah. You got your news from the evening news and Walter was the king. But boy he sure has gotten his old arse uptight since Klintoon left town didnt he? He quickly showed his true colors. The old codger wasnt heard of when Billy Bob Corndawg was in office, he was out enjoying the retired life. Now Walter is like " Waldo" if you look on the various channels he is bound to popup in the background and is continally espousing his liberal bilge. I' m just glad he made his true colors known before he kicked the bucket and got a sending off fit for royalty!

The Patriot Act is much in the news, as Ashcroft and his minions seek both to justify its excesses and strengthen them, thus intensifying its dangerous infringements on the Bill of Rights.

If you take the hyperbole and the author out of the equation and examine the foundation of what is happening, his concerns are valid to some degree.

A Constitution that allows freedom also allows terrorism to have free access. To end the access you must end the freedom.

We are now in a position wherein our freedom will exist only to the extent that we trust our government.

From a detached perspective, those that would destroy us have devised a brilliant plan.

I am no fan of old Walter and feel much the same as RA does. He was the King of news when I was growing up. However his opinion concerning the Patriot act is well founded in my opionion. The Patriot act is a short step away from giving the Government the right to substitute it freely for our constituion. We are close to handing over all of our freedom on the word of a Goverment which could turn Dictator. This under the pretence of saving us from ourselves. I think its a damn dangerios trend we are seeing.
