Politics Nothing goes with politics quite like crying and complaining, and we're a perfect example of that.

Default Wounded GI gets meal bill

Unbelievable,I seen this morning on the news that the soldiers wounded in action gets there medical care, but when they are discharged from the hospital they must pay for their meals!!!!!!. They had a story about a soldier that had his foot blown off in Iraq. When he left the Va.hospital they presented him with a bill for all his meals. Honest I could hardly believe it.But a government represenative was interviewed and he said thats true. But they are going to try and change it in the future.

Car, I saw something about that lastnight and I as well was disgusted. I am all for dropping ALL welfare and SSI programs (I think people could much better use the money in their own pockets instead of paying for votes to keep career politicians in office!) but vets are an ENTIRELY different subject. I too have seen " your story" and you shouldnt have one iota of concern about being a " moocher" . The deadbeat homies on welfare and WIC are a LONGSHOT from real Americans who have served their country and gotten injured as a result.

Whoever gave the orders to bill the vets for their food should be fired from their lazy govt jobs at once and lose ALL benefits (could pay many vets food bills with their rediculous retirement packages).

Bill a GI for his foodbill while being patched up from war???[:' (][:' (][:' (]

Like Buford T. Justice said, " WHUT in da hell is da world comin too?"

Write your Congressman.....tell him the problem and you want him (her) to help fix it. If they don' t respond, or can' t fix it....fire them. Most MCs are very interested in veterans these days.

Read Rudyard Kipling' s " Tommy" . During the weeks and months leading up to any war or conflict, the Soldiers and Sailors and today Airmen, that the Government depends upon to fight these wars, are lauded and set upon pedestals. They are promised great things, medical coverage, jobs, education benefits etc, for themselves and their children to be delivered after the conflict is over or upon retirement. Comes the day to pay the piper, and suddenly the (now) Veteran is a Leper. Other " Social" considerations become more important to those self same politicians promising the world a few months/years ago to these men and women they needed to carry out a mission. It never changes. How soon we forget.

If that is the same guy, he got part of his foot blown off in Kuwait. His congressman paid his bill; he, the Marine reservist, then took that same amount and donated it back to pay the bills of those who could not afford it. His name is Bill, he is also a deputy sherriff in Nevada. Great guy, he is my neighbor.

What the story did not tell you is that while he was in the hospital, the Navy tried to tell him that in X number of days he was to be returned to non drill status. That may not mean much to civilians, but, when that happens to an active reservist, they lose that acitve duty pay. Whoever told him that was not aware of their own regulations since before any service member can be discharged, they must obtain a physical. Anyway, it got straightened out by a not so friendly call to the JAG office in DC. (He was in Walter Reed Army hospital at the time)

I too saw this on the news, and was out-raged. You can go to war and get wounded or ultimatley die for your country BUT if you do go to the hospital you will have to pay for your food?

Man.... like Lou Dobbs said it doesnt suprise him that no one will confess to this bill.

Crazy!

More half truths by the liberal media.

The way I understand it, is like this:

While you are in the service you are given $8 a day for meals. When you go to war you get to keep that $8 a day as cash and you get fed. When you get put in the hospital you still get to keep that $8 a day and when you are discharged you are " billed" meaning that you are supposed to use that $8 towards the " bill."

So it really isn' t as bad as it looks.
