I wonder if it had anything to do with the Auto industry getting a ton of cash infused into it by BHO.
It has little to nothing to do with the auto bail out.
Michigan's meager surplus has mostly to do with the hard thought and responsible cuts that Snyder enacted. He's the only one with the guts, in the past 20 years, to slash where it had to happen. Don't get me wrong, his cuts have affected everyone in the sense that belt tightening is a must. But he's done it in a way I deem fair. I'm likely to have significant losses from his cuts, as an educator, but these cuts and rearrangements of the Michigan economy have started the process of digging out from years of Democratic spend and burn. I personlly will see at least a $5000.00 loss in personal revenue. But in the long haul I'll be better off as a resident of this state.
I've lived here all my life, and this process is long overdue. Painful but overdue.
.....uh......wasn't that a UNION bailout ? GM just happened to be the employer du jour...
See, demokrat scumbags use unions as their private slush funds and 'the membership' is too dim and dumb to understand it. Basically, demokrats (read that commies, atheists, socialists, racists, baby killers, God Haters, amoral pigs and class warriors) bail out unions with tax dollars (aka: OTHER people's money) and in return, stupid people are told to vote demokrat by their leadership who take that tax bailout money, lump it with 'union dues' and 'donate' to the DNC and the demokrat skunk-du-jour when it's up for re-election. La pesche feti di la testa ! The demokrat parasites have 'laundered' public money into their own private 'campaign funds'.
Don't get too excited about something you read in the New York Times about "Republicans." That paper is primarily a liberal propaganda piece. If I were a politician and found the New York Times saying good things about me, I would have to immediately review my position on everything.
Snyder's most decisive actions so far has been to promote tax increases with which our "Republican" legislators have gone along with gleefully.
He wants to increase taxes even more, especially gasoline taxes.
He did engineer a reduction in state transfers to schools, which resulted in teachers getting less of an increase than they felt they should get and they may have had to contribute more to their benefit package.
But most school funding comes from local property taxes.
We are going to make an exception in our voting pattern this next election. Normally we would vote a straight Republican ticket, but this time we will vote Democrat for governor and state reps and Republican for the national ticket.
(The Democrats are pretty much a lock for our local reps, but we want to make sure.)

This will be interesting to see where this thread goes. I know very little about Michigan. My brother use to live in Cadillac and then Kalamazoo. He left because his business was going no where and cussed the government the whole time. I agree about the Slimes, that is why I was surprised to see such and article there.

His decisive actions are overdue, since there is not one bit of sense in doing a selective tax on only the business sector. They are the ones who have been taking it in the arse for many years now.

There is talk of a new level of sales tax, which would eliminate the need for the gas tax. It is said to help with the roads more efficiently, which you must know as a resident, are in terrible shape.

Most teachers have not had any increases in years. I have not had an increase in 6 years, only pay cuts. The paying of more into the retirement benefits and medical insurance also started years ago. I'm not complaining. Most of the younger educators in my building still grouse about their costs, even though they just don't get that though their packages have declined, they still have excellent insurance.I wish I still made the extra $5000.00 that has been cut from my pay in the last 3 years, and I wish I wasn't paying the additional $3000.00 annually for my insurance, but everybody in Michigan has been hit and hit hard, and I would feel richer but guilty if I wasn't shouldering the same burdens as my neighbors, many of whom have lost jobs, let alone lost benefits. I am grateful that I have a good job.

We all must do what we think is best, but I for one will be voting for Mr. Snyder AGAIN. He's got the cohones to make the tough decisions. I may not find all his decisions the best for me personally, but in the big picture I beleive he is honestly trying to help this state with sound business decisions.
