No sweets with food stamps.
Don't think it will matter. Your not suppose to buy alcohol with food stamps, but that has not stopped them. In Texas they use their Lonestar card to buy junk food, then get cash off their card and use the cash to buy alcohol. I see it at Walmart almost everytime I go.

Yes food stamps is supposed to be for just staples. Even hot sandwiches can't be purchased with food stamps,
When it was paper food stamps, stores used to buy the food stamps at 1/2 value, $100 food stamps gets you $50 cash,
Now that its the card many stores charge double for people to buy stuff like beer on food stamps. $10 worth of beer they ring up $20 produce.
This is/was with local convenience stores. Sure every town/state has their own scam going on
abuse/misuse must be criminalized. Both for recipients, as well as store owners.
Store owners caught selling unauthorized items no longer can turn in food stamp receipts for reimbursement. Recipients caught purchasing unauthorized items on their cards, LOSE the card...3 months first offense....6 months second offense....permanently from 3rd offense on. You will never see this. Food Stamps is a demokrat method to subjugate poor people...to ensure they're on the government teat permanently, and registered demokrats for life because they won't bite the hand that 'feeds' them. It is a synergy between parasite and host, with food stamp recipients and demokrats playing both parts simultaneously.
Problem is with how its funded to begin with
1/3 fed 1/3 state 1/3 city,
For every $1 mill a city spends its getting additional $2 mill pumped back into its economy.
As for feds role. Who in dc is voting on the funding? Reps wanting that additional $2 mil back to their constituents.
System won't change when those writing legislation and voting on changes are the ones benefitting from current system.
Feds stopping funding is step #1. Will force the cities and states to revisit level of assistance, investigation and prosecution of fraud, and all sorts of money saving initiatives.
How to get the feds to stop funding ? Vote republican in November...the poor vote demokrat, so there is virtually no risk associated with republicans pulling the funding.

Its legal here. On the lone star card the user can get X amount of cash. What they do is pull up a cart with food and junk food, and beer. They pay for the food, then request their cash. They then have the beer rang up and pay for it with the cash they just took off the card.
How do I use my Lone Star Card to take out cash?
You can only get cash if you get TANF benefits. Follow these steps to get cash:
1. Ask the store worker how much cash you can get with
your card at one time. Some stores let you get all your
cash at once. Other stores might let you get only a
certain amount at one time.
NOTE: Some stores might charge a fee for taking out
cash. To find out more about fees stores can charge,
click on one of the following links:
2. Follow directions on the machine. This will include typing
in your PIN. Make sure other people can't see your PIN
when you type it. The directions on the machine also
will ask you how much you want to take out.
NOTE: If you type in the wrong PIN, your Lone Star
Card will not work. If you enter the wrong PIN too many
times on the same day, your account will be put on
hold. This means you can't use your card until you call
1-800-777-7328.
3. If you have enough in your TANF account, the store
worker will give you your money.

When the money on the card is exhausted, must the user wait till the next month's disbursement before he can replenish the card ?
If that's so, then frig'em. THey can buy all the beer they want by charging cash to their cards...when the money runs out, they starve till next month. No problem with it at all.
Maybe, in keeping with the purpose of the program, remove the ability of people charging cash from the card ! WTF is that !??
In Texas when they use up all their funds they have to wait till next month of get more added to their cards, so if they blow it all on Ding Dongs and Ho Ho's they are SOL...
I can sure tell when someone in front of me is using a Lone Star card, they are sure buying a whole lot more junk that I would ever buy!
First step is to get the government out of the business of redistributing wealth and back in the hands of charities. I heard not many weeks ago about the number of charities that existed back in the 30s. There was tens of thousands of these groups out there. Now the bulk of them have been replaced by the government which has a hard time saying no to anything. Even birthday cake and candles get the blessing of members on this forum.

Not sure how it works, but I believe they can be receiving different types of benefits and access it via the same card,
Like say $200/month food stamps for groceries
And $200/ suplemental income which is cash.
Them swiping may think its food stamps but could be using their suplemental income,
They might also be able to access something like disabilty benefits on it.
Not sure but might be something like that.
