Politics Nothing goes with politics quite like crying and complaining, and we're a perfect example of that.

Funny.....my wife and I were considering the same thing (Costa Rica maybe...Chile or Argentina are other possibilities.) if Obama gets a 2nd term. This is in anticipation of crushing tax increases and medical care price hikes. We are also considering divorce, to avoid the tax hikes promised on 'the rich' because separately, we don't qualify but together we get hammered. So, EFF the feds, if it's within my power to do so.

I'm glad my wife isn't working anymore; she was Vice Pres of a chain of banks; our net income was where Obama was drooling over it. We don't need the extra imcome, I make enough for us and I'm glad to have my wife home, and glad not to give them Ba#@$%s any more than I have to.

I hear ya' Rev.... It's about the 'haves' trying to keep from being robbed by rich ideologues hiding behind the working poor. It's a disgrace that Americans should have to expatriate themselves to find greater security and freedom someplace else because they have become the focus of a Marxist government. Too bad.....

I thought you could avoid income taxes by giving all your money away.

But my husband tells me there is a limit on charitable contributions.

He also says he had a neighbor once from Belize. Apparently it's pretty nice there and American expatriate compatible.

You guys have to forgive me mentioning my husband so much. He doesn't post very often, but we talk about the stuff that gets discussed here all the time.

Forgive ? Why ? Being married, it's pretty well understood that Mrs.Bergall and I share lots of what's said on these pages. Mentioning 'honorable husband' demonstrates a healthy relationship. Never apologize for that.

There are lots of places amenable to American expatriates. Costa Rica, Belize is another one, yes, even parts of Mexico are friendly to retirees as well. Just keep away from Europe...that's our FUTURE, and we're fighting like hell to keep that from happening !

If you're drawing a retirement or pension from the US gov't your pension will most likely be gone when you become a citizen of a foreign country. Have a friend who is a retired US Army LTC: For a Col. he never was very smart. The guy moved to Australia and took Australian citizenship. He called the IRS and asked them to stop taking US tax out of his military retired pay because he was no longer a US citizen. The IRS tipped someone off and the guy lost his retired pay.

well DUH ! Government pensions....Social Security, obviously....anything to which a CITIZEN would be entitled. To expatriate oneself, one must be certain his financial house is in order because you're on your own if you leave.
