Politics Nothing goes with politics quite like crying and complaining, and we're a perfect example of that.

Default House Republicans surrender

News reports indicate that the House Republicans will now pass the Senate bill for the two month extension that the Senate agreed to that will preserve the payroll tax cut, unemployment benefits while preventing a steep cut in Medicare reimbursement to Physicians.

As an MD with 60 % of my patient population having Medicare this is a tremendous relief to me personally. More importantly, it shows that the tea party does not have to have everything all their way every time. This time, the President made it clear to them that he was done negotiating on this bill, the tea party had gotten everything they were going to get. and attempts to get more through "hostage taking" were not going to succeed.

Sorry but what a load of crap. Do you support Obamacare? If you did, this physician funding wasn't suppose to happen. It was part of the savings the Democrats claimed when they asked for the CBO to score the bill.

Bottom line, we knew Obamacare was a lie and it will blow trillions in both federal and state budgets.

I am glad someone decided that it was worth looking at a compromise even if it will be short lived. +1 for the GOP

Yep' deficits don't matter. National debt doesnt matter. This year SS will be in the red 115 billion dollars. FYI, I'm talking 2011 not 2012. 2012 gets even worst next year.

My medical practice derives a significant portion of its revenue from osteoporosis screening, diagnosis, staging and follow up of therapy using dual x-ray absorptiometry (DXA) scanning. The bill the House sent to the Senate included a 40% cut in reimbursement by Medicare for these studies while the Senate bill fully funds it at current levels. DXA studies require special expensive x-ray equipment and would have become no longer economically viable under the House bill.

The House bill would have cost me tens of thousands of dollars in earnings. More importantly, it would have meant that there would have been thousands of more deaths from hip fractures because osteoporosis would not have been diagnosed and treated before a fracture occurred. One of the "poison pills" in the House bill was an $8 billion cut in spending for preventive health care. It is always cheaper to prevent a serious event such as a hip fracture than it is to treat it.

Its further proof that the elected officials we have are cowards. they need to be removed.
lemaitre, I would speculate that your cost of care would drop if the government wasn't involved in paying you.
You would have to accept that certain things can be lived without, depending who is paying for them.
Given that we know how well the gooberment is at fixing what isn't broken to begin with.

So 'personal gain' is de rigeur when it comes to policy. it's why I despise the left and moderates, and give the 'hairy eyeball' to Independents. The good of the country is not even considered. As far as I'm concerned, those old fools who support the left nowadays DESERVE their social security defunded...it's the price if ignorance and stupidity. Then, fancy-dancy xray machine or not, they're gonna die prematurely anyway, no matter what.

oh, I totally disagree with that statement. It's been a great tag line used for years by both sides. It was used extensively when it came to offering the prescription health benefit in Medicare. Both sides made that claim. The left spoke out of both sides of their mouths. One attacking the right for implementing it "without" paying for it. However, even when it was debated both sides claimed prevention would show us massive savings. Then when the left gets in power, the go after their argument on the opposite side and expand the program " without" paying for it by closing the loop hole.

There has NEVER been any evidence that shows prevention reduces medical costs over the lifetime. We all are going to die some way some how. If a man drops dead in the middle of shoveling the sidewalk this winter, isn't that cheaper than putting a stint in or preventive by pass surgery?
