This works for me, if we have conservative majorities in both houses and a republican behind Resolute. Unfortunately, THIS practice can be turned against conservatives once they lose their grasp on power. Conservativce judges can be called to account for unfavorable decisions deemed by liberals to be questionable. And liberals are brain-damaged so....

Timing is everything and I question why he would take this position this close to the primary elections. His detractors are saying he is a “loose cannon” and all of a sudden he is talking about having judges arrested. I was reading something a few weeks ago and the article basically said acting like this was his history. Any politician who acts too far to ether side is doomed and would be labeled by the opposition as a radical and feared by many of the moderates due to the unpredictability of his actions. IMO this guy just did himself in.

If you understand that all branches are equal and the fact that the judicial branch only operates under the authorization of Congress, it makes sense.

It don't seem anything other than crazy. Proposals of this sort sound good when you're in power, but when you're not, well, the worm turns and it won't be pretty. Newt's gonna crash and burn on this one if it gets the attention it deserves. So, we're back to Romney....good Lord help us !

Agreed, but to begin this practice opens up the spectre of subpoena and removal of conservative, strict-interpretationist judges when the libscum is in power. It's a two edged sword and it does us no good without a very very strict guide on what qualifies for judicial removal.
The guide must be detailed and not open to interpretation. Newt made no qualifications on this...just pulled the pin and tossed the grenade. Had he qualified his opinion with rules of restraint, it might be more palatable. I have no problem with the removal of activist judges....I just want to protect good, strict interpretation conservative judges from the ravening hordes once the power-pendulum swings.
Newt (to me )is the most qualified person running for the GOP nomination and probably one of the smartest; with that being said some of the most intelligent people I’ve known don’ t have enough sense to cross the street. Time and time again Newt has tasted the sole of his shoes!

But congress has the power today. Newt is only saying its time to excersis it.

Not so fast. Like I said before on another thread there is still time for someone else to gain strength. It seems that few really like Romney and most say he is not electable. Perry stepped on his own shrinky back a couple of months ago and has all but been written off except that is the same position McSame was in last time around. I will say Bachman is out of it since she has that crazy eyed look more befitting a bitchy wife than a POTUS. She and Paul could team up and create a new family group. Huntsman, Santorum.....nothing happening.... but the anyone but Romney syndrome could make them more palitable. This one will get interesting meanwhile Gingrich is sitting on his well worn woopie cushion blowing it all away .....

That may be true the problem is the way the media will spin it. Our independent judiciary serves as one of the "checks and balances." As I believe Bergal alluded to:
1. The media is going to make Newt look like an evil conservative out to repeal civil liberties.
2. What goes around comes around. The democrats will do this to conservative judges and the decisions they do not like, IE: gun control. So if you are going to "pull the pin" on this you had best be darn sure of what you are doing.
Getting back to Newt's comment: is it a good idea? Possibly. A decision comes to mind regarding shutting off water to farm land in California for fear it might hurt some fish, the "Delta Smelt" I believe. That might be worth bringing the judge before congress to answer WTF are you thinking??
Newt is very intelligent and knowledgeable about the intricacies of our government. And for the time being he still has my vote. Too bad he does not have a good sense of tact!

That's where the rub comes in. No doubt Newt is very intelligent...but I can't tell yet how much common sense he has.
I've run across too many people that were book brilliant and life stupid--makes me cautious.
However, if he gets the nomination I'll vote for him. I'd vote for a pile of chicken manure before I'd vote for bho...well, actually that would be six of one and a half-dozen of the other kind of choice...
