Politics Nothing goes with politics quite like crying and complaining, and we're a perfect example of that.

Default Why are we extending......

Why are we extending the pay roll tax reduction when we aren't shrinking the system? It has proven to not create jobs. So I'm perplexed why do it at all?

Why are we entending unemployment benefits? This also doesn't make sense especially when I know several who prefer collecting it instead of taking a job. It's time to end this madness.

Last, isn't it weird we are being told we need to extend the payroll tax cuts in order to create jobs while we are entending unemployment to encourage people not to go out and find jobs?

You are thinking too much. Just trust Obama's teleprompter, it knows what is best.

We could make fun of O'Bama for this nonsense. But remember that he can't do it alone. He needs a majority vote from Congress. And that means some "conservative" Republicans will have to go along.

If the go along with it, would that still make them a conservative?

Obama is in full reelection mode and has been ever since he was elected. For a guy who said he doesn't care if he's a 1-term President, he acts a whole lot like somebody trying to get reelected. Like pushing an extension of the payroll tax to show the working class that he cares.

The problem is that the conservatives sell themselves as wanting lower taxes and less government. If they don't go along, then Obama gets to say "see.... It's all talk. They don't REALLY want lower taxes." The payroll tax should never have been reduced in the first place. It's "supposed to be" a system where everyone pays in and everyone gets a benefit. But, since it's already on a downward spiral, all that the reduction does is crash the system sooner...

You're right IPSC. What's really trouble some, how many times have they spent their proposed tax on the rich? How many things have the attempted to pay for by saying we're going to tax the top 1%? Then add in the fact everything they have tried to attach it to, only lasts one year but it takes 10 years to pay for. This is crazy.

Our national debt is now over 100%. They are spending this last round of borrowing like money is just growing on trees. Next round of borrow, should it occur., will put us above 120% of GDP. We can't afford to go there and don't want to find out what happens when we do. We are in serious trouble if they don't start drastic spending cuts.

for votes

there is going to be a big increase in people making over $1 million (like they don't pay enough taxes) and that increase will offset the decrease for average earners

but

average earners are 60 million voters strong, appeal to them, piss the 300,000 1 million earners off and you get re elected

simple, makes no difference if its right or wrong

Our GDP is just under 15 trillion. We just passed the 15 trillion mark in debt last month before I left for vacation. This last round of debt ceiling increase will get used up by next year since we are spending Obama's 1 trillion stimulus money every year now.
