Important quote--
"We only have ourselves to blame for government policies that threaten our way of life, our security and the future of democracy in Britain."
"We've been very apathetic for years and now we're paying the price."
"Now realizing perhaps too late that our traditions are no more secure than our liberty."
"40% increase since the ban on firearms went into effect."
"Authorities have no way of controlling criminals so they control the law abiding because we're an easy target."
Interesting fact (from the video):
In the 1980's, guns were not prohibited and police were not issued guns or bulletproof vests because they were not deemed to be needed.
In 2011, guns are prohibited, crime is up 40% and police are issued guns and bulletproof vest because they are needed.
This is more of the same old stuff we've talked about for years. People always want to give up freedom for security and that simply does not work because it's not practical or affordable. The only way to make that proposition work would be for each citizen to have their own personal cop/bodyguard/armed protector with them 24-7 and that is something that is impossible to afford.
Yes, police can do a great job at finding criminals who have committed crimes and, believe it or not, a proactive police department can actually prevent a lot of crimes but no police department/sheriff's department/law enforcement agency can prevent every crime. That's where citizens come in to the picture. Citizens with guns and citizens who call law enforcement and help.
It's tempting for people to just say that people who vote for gun control or gun control politicians are simply afraid of guns. But their issue of fear goes much deeper than that. Usually those people don't want to be involved in any way in the process of defending their safety, liberty or rights--They want government to do it. They don't want to put forth the effort, sometimes have to get their hands dirty or sometimes risk their safety and/or life. What they don't realize (out of ignorance or apathy) is that they do indeed risk all of that with their foolish choice to support gun control.
Gun control is not just about who can have a gun. It's about freedom, liberty, the ability to defend yourselves and the ability to choose how best to protect yourself and run your life. A society with gun controls almost invariably restricts other freedoms and has more criminality afoot. A society with less or no gun controls generally has less restrictions on a person's liberty, freedom and less crime.
Take a poll in almost any prison in the US (or abroad) and the # 1 thing criminals fear is an armed victim. A criminal can get away with a lot of crime with the courts, gamble that an armed cop isn't nearby or that he/she won't get caught. The one thing a criminal isn't going to beat is an armed victim who is prepared to defend themselves and fight back. That is the single thing that can change the whole equation of crime--a criminal dying or severely wounded while trying to commit crime. It's the ultimate policy to reduce recidivism and it also has the side benefit of reducing crime to begin with as criminals think twice about committing a crime if they think the victim is armed--it's just not safe for the little dears.
