Default An interesting morning

On the way to the gas station this morning, as I was coming around a curve, I noticed the car in front of me coming to a stop in the road.

It was obvious there had just been an accident of some kind, and it had just happened.

Sure enough, a little kid, about three or four years old had just been doinked by a car.

He was banged up pretty bad, unresponsive, not breathing and was mostly still under the car.

I did' nt have to do compressions because his heart was beating, but I did have to do breaths a couple of times untill he started gasping.

I' ve been a first aid and CPR instructor for about seven years, but this is the first time I' ve ever had to use it.

It would suit me just fine if I did' nt ever have to do this again.

I probably should have mentioned in the first post that when he was hit, the tires did' nt get him, but he bounced around underneath for a while. His head was pretty messed up.

To say he was breathing and had a heartbeat when I left him and the EMT folks showed up was not really much of an accomplishment.

I called the hospital this morning, and for privacy purposes, the folks at the hospital won' t divulge a lot of information other than he is still alive. But the " tone" indicates it' s not likely he will live for very much longer.

I live pretty far out in the woods, so by the time a helocopter flew in from Roanoke and got him transported to a sure enough hospital, several hours had passed.

The old girl that ran him over was very very old. When I tried to talk to her at the scene, she had pretty much lost her mind. As it turns out,(I found out today) she was transported out also because she ended up having a heart attack as a result.

So I don' t think that I actually " did" anything other than prolong what was gonna happen anyway.

I have come to the conclusion that I can rule being a Doctor off my things to do in the future.

Oh man.... I feel so bad to hear all about that! I just pray that the little boy didn' t feel any pain or know what hit him.
