Politics Nothing goes with politics quite like crying and complaining, and we're a perfect example of that.

Not sure if this should go in Politics or offseason, feel free to move it mods! Going to become a member of the NRA right after Christmas this year. What magazine do I want, and why? I'm a hunter, and I also do a lot of target shooting. So I've pretty much narrowed it down to American Hunter or American Rifleman. What is the focus of each magazine? Are these monthly magazines? Give me your opinion!

depends on your focus. If you like firearms, American Rifleman. If you like to hunt, American Hunter. Being a rifle/shotgun hunter in the Northeast, I find both magazines focus on .45acp semi-auto handguns A LOT....and on hunting out West. Could be just me, but there seems to be where the focus lies. I love both mags...and read both with lots of interest as they are excellent. I dont think you can go wrong with either one.

You get one free with the membership. It's not very expensive to subscribe to the other... You could then decide at renewal time which one you'd like to keep getting, or renew for both...

This year has been an overabundance of 1911 coverage. Most years they stick to the focus of the magazine more.

I get the American Rifleman, and my Father gets American Hunter. They are equally good magazines.

If you want to maintain your hunting privileges, join your local car insurance lobby.

I would choose the "American Rifleman" for more all around useful information. Like bergall - I think the american Hunter does focus largely on western hunting and was of little interest to me so I dropped it.

I have been a member of NRA for many years and have had both magazines. I do like western hunting so that is the one I get right now. Every time I get to the point where I want another gun I might switch to the rifleman just to get me going towards a purchase. Nothing quite like getting a new gun or even reading about them.

I've gotten both from year to year and find that there's a lot of overlapping coverage. The titles pretty much say it all. I ended up sticking with American Rifleman the past few years because of the excellent military weapons articles. I'm a big military history buff.

A lot of the articles in American Hunter seemed like the kind of ad pieces you see in Guns & Ammo and the like, but they are objective and well-written.

Amen to the 1911 over kill for the 1911's birthday. The magazine that I enjoy reading the most is North American Hunting Club if you want to get a good pure hunting magazine.
