Politics Nothing goes with politics quite like crying and complaining, and we're a perfect example of that.

Angry Someone tried to break into my Jeep tonight!!!

Ya I know, this one isn't political, but oh well!!!

The peat bog is located in the middle of nowhere-land, it's about as rural as it gets.

I've been working afternoons at the plant this week, normally I'm out on the bog. The plant is located about 75yds from the office and break trailers. Currently the yard is filling up with 8ft tall peat bales. At this point in time from the plant you can only see the very end of the parking area, and the office trailer.

At lunch time this evening I had moved my Jeep closer to the office since all of the day shift guys were gone. At this point I should mention that I always have my Ruger Single-Six in the Jeep, and since it's bird season here my 12 gauge S/S is always there too.

During our lunch break one of the guys wife and daughter dropped in to visit. As we were heading back to work the gals said they wanted to come out and see how the plant operated, and it's a damn good thing they did. When heading out I remembered that I hadn't locked the Jeep, and headed over to do so. I was just about to the Jeep when I saw a little white car slowing before the plant entrance. They didn't pull into the plant, but stopped at the entrance as if they were parked on the side of the road. I stood watching them for about 15 seconds until they drove away. At that point I thought no big deal, I locked the Jeep, jumped back in my loader and went back to work.

After about an hour the gals had decided that they'd seen enough and were headed for home. as the walk around the last row of bales they saw that the little white car was parked between them, and my Jeep, and a guy was messing with my Jeep. It startled the daughter, and she screamed. When she screamed the guy jumped into the car, and they sped off.

As all of this was transpiring I had just filled my peat hopper and was walking into the plant to see how things were going. They guy was on the phone with his wife and quickly told me what was going on. I immediately headed for my Jeep, I met the gals about halfway, and they quickly gave me a few more details. Sure enough when I got to my Jeep the alarm was going off.

It didn't take us long to figure out that it's someone who is familiar with our operation, as well as us individually. First of all, with the two gals there we were kind of dragging our feet coming off of lunch break. When the car first showed up on any other night we would have already been back at the plant. Second, there are only three of us working there that have firearms in their vehicles, and in my case on their person at all times, the other two were working day shift. Third, they knew to go straight to my Jeep because that's where the payoff was, there was nothing of much value in anyone Else's vehicle. Just your average everyday stuff.

There's only so many people that have the knowledge to know what they knew. Hopefully we can nail this one down!!!

"Just another car break-in" is NOT what happened to you. THey were after your firearms plain and simple. You have someone YOU WORK WITH who is part of the break-in. My advice is to keep your 'carry arm' and dispense with firearms in the car. They may get to the car before you figure out who's trying to do the break-in. It's a tough row to hoe that's for sure....I lived in Brooklyn and break-ins were commonplace....I even stopped locking my doors because at least that way, I don't have to pay for the glass.

Wow, I had dropped by a friends house to ask his advice regarding my little bass boat that I want to sell. First thing I noticed, his 42' Fountain was gone. I said darn you sold it. He said no, it was stolen while they were in MI. It had to be someone they knew. He lives way off the main road in a wooded neighborhood.

Have to agree with Bergall on this. Someone who knows you was involved. I would remove your firearm(s) from the Jeep and just have your carry weapon on you. Let it be known around your work place that have decided to remove the firearms and all valuables from the Jeep. Up to your discretion on whether you let people at work know you carry concealed. That could go either way for you.

Sorry to hear about the break in. Definitely sucks!

In at least one Brooklyn Marina, some coconuts were stealing outboards by chain-sawing them off the transoms....they could not care less if the boat sinks as a result. And this marina was WATCHED ! Can't tell me you don't hear a chainsaw working at 1am!

By me in NJ....every day I'd pass a front yard with a Bayliner ('bout 24-26footer) on a trailer...figure they fish at the reservoir here. One day the trailer is gone, and there's a sign "This was not a Free Boat...Please bring it back"....hahaha....fat chance. If it can be stolen, it will be stolen. It's up to us to take reasonable precautions to secure our stuff, and thats the plain and simple truth. You will find that trusting to people's better nature will get you screwed every time because while 99 guys wont touch what's not theirs, it's that 1 oddball who will have no problems helping himself to the free goodies.

My initial thoughts was that it was definitely an inside gig. Which it very well maybe. We do have a couple of guys on day shift who are of questionable character among many of us.

But after discussing it with our mechanic today, who grew up 4 miles from the bog and knows everybody in the area there is another very likely suspect. After telling him about the incident, and describing the car I saw he immediately came up with the name of a guy that lives just a couple miles North of the plant, drives a car matching my description, and has the reputation of being a thief.

I should add that my fall rig is a black 98 Grand Cherokee, and our Mech. drives a black 98 Ford Explorer. He's one of the other guys that has guns in his rig throughout the fall. One theory is that the guy may have mistaken my rig for his in the dark, and was targeted for the same reason. The guy knew there would most likely be guns in it.

We're still sorting this one out, it will probably come too nothing, but I'll post what we figure out. As of now I've left the guns in the Jeep, as I refuse to let these a-holes ruin my Fall, but I now park the Jeep up at the plant where I can see it.

It happened to me two times last year, once they got a GPS and the next time a laptop and a digital camera. Nothing makes me madder than someone taking something that I worked for. I carry a handgun everywhere I go but I never leave it in my truck.
