No...not really.....I thought the idea of a union was two-fold:
1: to protect it's membership from exploitation by employers
2: to provide a standard of excellence in providing goods and
services....
so...which does this fall under ? Seems that at least the teachers'
union has decided to forego the 'standard of excellence' in favor of
blind self-interest....pukes. This union NEEDS to be busted....
As long as the government has a law that forces kids to go to school, parents should have a choice on where. I don't regret forking over the money I have in order to send my kids toawesome private schools. I only wish other parents who wanted to but couldn't afford it got the same chance.

If I am paying for a private school, the last thing I want is some lowlife riff-raff getting in without paying for it. FM (aka Mao) don't EVER pretend to be a free market defender again.... the stink of pinko commie socialism is all over your posts.

The school where we will probably send our girls offers scholarships to parents who cannot afford the tuition but does require that the parents make the same commitment to their children's education that the tuition paying parents do. You don't have to be Catholic, but you do have to support the religious education segment of the school's curriculum. You also have to participate with the faculty in meeting the academic requirements of the school, homework, regular attendance, respect for teachers and fellow students, etc.

Wait a minute....is FM hinting at some sort of an entitlement for poor families ?
How are poor families to be afforded this 'opportunity', to attend a 'for profit' school they cannot afford to send their kids to ?
I would support grants and scholarships at all educational levels, funded by private concerns, and solely for the education of 'qualified' kids...you do not want to compromise the quality of private school education by flooding it with crack babies or head-start kids if they can't pass muster.

I don't think he's promoting an entitlement. It's certainly not in our parish. The Catholic schools here are non-profit. Our parish subsidizes the school. The schools in the lower income parishes are subsidized by the diocese. All parents have to pay, unless they qualify for a scholarship. You also have to pay for books and supplies, lunches, and uniforms. Uniforms start at first grade, slacks and polo shirts for the boys, blouses and jumpers for the girls. (The girls can wear slacks, but the slacks are the same as the boys. They just don't look that good on girls, so most girls seem to wear the jumpers. )
But it's not an entitlement and no government money is involved.

Too funny, your for forcing kids to go to whatever school some pencil neck geek says they must attend and I'm for school choice as long as this government forces kids to go to school while forcing others to pay for it. You're going to call that a Pinko commi position?
You really prove in every post just how much you need a check up from the neck up.

Hey HD, its also interesting how you feel a mom has the right to murder their unborn, and should, (a noted practice in Pinko commi land China), yet darn it, they aren't responsible enough to choose a good school.

the fact is, that we USED to pay for what we wanted and government was out of the picture. You either went to private school, or you went to the free 'public school'. I always found the Public Schools were wont to teach things other than readin' ritin' and rithmetic. The Reds all knew that to convert the oldsters was futile....but to propagandize the young, well, that's a winning combo; the public school system is the perfect venue for turning out little commies by the thousands.
I'd NEVER let my kids go to public school.

Please keep in mind Sir, that I went to public schools. It's not as bad as you think. Yes, there is a tendency for SOME teachers to push their brand of liberal socialism onto their students. But that is not true of all teachers.
And I can also assure you, from my own personal experience that public schools could do a much better job if parents were interested and involved in their childrens education.
I was expected to get perfect grades and my mother took a belt to me if I didn't. HD might think that was awful and I wasn't too happy about it at the time. But I am delighted NOW that she made certain that I succeeded.
