Has anybody seen this yet? The Republican candidate to replace NY congressman Anthony Weiner won against the Democratic candidate 54-46% in a District where Democrats hold a 3-1 registered voter advantage. Interestingly, a recent Siena Poll found that 54 percent of likely voters disapproved of the president's job performance. Hmmmm........
Oh but it was really a conservative district that leans Republican. It was also a local election with no implications on the national race.

Just another sign of what will happen in '12. Looks to me like we will be having a GOP run government for a while. Kind of ironic when you think of what Obama means to different people. He was the hope and poster child of minorities and the face of the new democratic party with change and progress as a base. Now he isn't getting the support of minorities and the dems are running away from him. The GOP will probably say he was the best thing for them after they sweep the power up in the next election.

The article says 40% of the voters in the district are Jewish. Obama's anti-Israel policies might have had a lot to do with the result.
Interestingly, the loser is Jewish, the winner is Catholic.
This hadto be a referendum on the Obama administration. This is the first time ever that this district has elected a Republican representative.
Yeah, that was the spin I heard this morning. The vote went (R) because the Jewish voters are mad at Obama. I had NOT heard of the religious affiliation of the two candidates. That makes the outcome even more interesting...
Before you get too excited, keep in mind that nyc reps tend to be just as liberal as their dem counterparts.
Giulliani and bloomberg, both reps, both, pro gay marriage, pro illegal immigration, pro abortion, big time pro antiguns, pro taxes..heck even folding knives are illegal in nyc, not to mention +$10 tolls and +$12 cigs. Good going reps.
I don't know the guy's politics, but even if he is as liberal as a dem the symbolism goes a long way...I love it.

A seat which the Democrats have held since the 20's, if I am not mistaken. Like the Kennedy senate seat in Massachusetts, no doubt the Democrat elite assumed they OWNED this seat. That makes the victory all the sweeter.
I'm thinking, as others have said, that there is going to be a strong Republican victory in 2012. I forsee the Republican majority in the House being extended, the Republican's gaining a majority in the Senate, and the Republicans taking the presidency. The trick will be for the Republicans under those circumstances keeping their eye on the ball and takin' care o' bidness. They will have been elected to office for a reason, and it behooves them to keep that reason in mind. It isn't because they are pretty. It isn't because they are a superior race. It isn't because they are the elite. It is because they have a different set of governing principles, and they better act in accordance with the principles. Balance the budget. Reduce the size and footprint of government. Manage the federal regulations with a decent view to a balance between the different involved intests. Run things with a decent consideration to the limitations of human wisdom and understanding, which implies making small changes in some things (although dialing back spending as a function of GDP BACK to about 19% should be done toute de suite, which is not a small change). Also, it is my opinion that they ought to be much more circumspect about making foreign committments, going forwards. As our recent experience shows, this is like getting married -- in fact our recent foreign committments have been longer lasting than many peoples' marriages!!!! Do you really want to get married to Iraq? to Libya? to whatever? Think about it in that way before you say "I do!"
It gets better. I challenge the 40% Jewish number....I LIVED in the adjoining neighborhood, Bensonhurst, for 45 years. Drove thru Boro-Park (this is the district of "The Weiner" who inherited it from Chuckie Schumer). This is an area that is SO Jewish I cannot imagine anyone else living there. If you're not a Jewish Doctor, Optometrist, dentist, baker, butcher, Plumber, Carpenter, Drywall mechanic, Auto mechanic, or anything else for that matter, you don't work in Boro Park. That being said, it is more than just a referendum on floppy ears incapacity. They have outright REJECTED the democrats in their district, and it wil be DIRECTLY due to two factors: the economy (they are VERY conservative fiscally), and the idiot's treatment of Israel. This is an amazing, amazing thing, even more amazing than having the first black man voted in as President of the United States, IMO. You'll see lions lie with sheep before you see this again....imo, the repudiation could not be more complete.
