Default loveing, caring unions.

LONGVIEW, Wash. (AP) — Hundreds of Longshoremen stormed the Port of Longview early Thursday, overpowered and held security guards, damaged railroad cars, and dumped grain that is the center of a labor dispute, said Longview Police Chief Jim Duscha.
Six guards were held hostage for a couple of hours after 500 or more Longshoremen broke down gates about 4:30 a.m. and smashed windows in the guard shack, he said.
No one was hurt, and nobody has been arrested. Most of the protesters returned to their union hall after cutting brake lines and spilling grain from car at the EGT terminal, Duscha said.
The International Longshore and Warehouse Union believes it has the right to work at the facility, but the company has hired a contractor that's staffing a workforce of other union laborers.
Thursday's violence was first reported by Kelso radio station KLOG.
Police from several agencies in southwest Washington, the Washington State Patrol and Burlington Northern Santa Fe responded to the violence to secure the scene that followed a demonstration Wednesday.
"We're not surprised," Duscha said. "A lot of the protesters were telling us this in only the start."
One sergeant was threatened with baseball bats and retreated, Duscha said. "One officer with hundreds of Longshoremen? He used the better part of discretion."
The train was the first grain shipment to arrive at Longview. It arrived Wednesday night after police arrested 19 demonstrators who tried to block the tracks. They were led by ILWU International President Robert McEllrath, who said they would return.
The blockade appeared to defy a federal restraining order issued last week against the union after it was accused of assaults and death threats.
EGT chief executive Larry Clarke said it was unfortunate that law enforcement needed to make arrests.

Why is there no one arrested. Kidnapping, breaking and entering, vadalism, violating a peace bond, etc. etc....

First thing I asked myself when reading this. It's time to reopen island prisons I think. Put youths that demand others take care of them along with union folk demanding more for less work in the name of "a living wage". We can keep them living with room and board.

The police are probably union. These destructive, anti-productive, worthless thugs are union. And, the workers the contractors are trying to use are union. Where's the solidarity?
I say let them just beat themselves to death.

Amazing, all this happened on a thursday? Usually their peak performance times occur on wedsdays. Must of been the holiday weekend that caused this spike of energy a day late.

At least one union around here used Thursday as a unification day. In my old company they wore red shirts on Thursday to show solidarity.

Security doesn’t carry guns; that seems to me a good means to take care of violence!

Back a few years ago, I bought a tractor, leased out to a freight company, and hauled their trailers around the country. Driving an 18-wheeler paid pretty good money then, if you don't mind not really having a home.

Anyway, the company I leased to required that I join the Teamsters Union. I couldn't figure it out because I was self-employed. They said it was for my own protection. It gave me a justification for not crossing picket lines, which can be dangerous, especially since truckers usually arrive in early morning when it's still dark.

I drove through two truckers strikes back in the 80's.. I did carry a pistol for protection. I know there were some truckers shot during the strike, and one little 16 year old girl killed when a rock bounced off a truck and killed the girl.
I hate unions with a passion! The all deserve what Hoffa got!

I agree with you...I have always turned my back on that socialist crap. I cannot condone an organization that seeks dominion over their employers thru threats, intimidation and violence. What Hoffa got is too good for them !
