This is incredible stuff. Really. Makes me vomit. I despise Obama completely, but...BUT BUT...who are these DOJ goons and the goons conducting the raid? You see, the fact that have agents armed to the teeth to blindly follow orders to raid a frickin' guitar factory, you've got bigger problems than just Obama and crew. Where are the agents that stand up to orders for unlawful search and seizure? Where are the judges that should be ordering the return of this "contraband" (ebony!!)?? What do "we the people" do when OUR GOVERNMENT is facking over an American-built icon?? You see, it's stuff like this that makes me believe we are utterly facked. Too many goons just following orders. But "it" can't happen to us!!
I really regret selling my Gibson Nighthawk...

As I understand it, the regulations in question have to do with rare limited woods. If you will, endangered species of wood. You can agree or disagree that we should or should not give a 4hit about whether Brazilian Rosewood trees go extinct or not. But at present there are some strict regulations in place to try to protect these trees.
This strikes me as a very fact based issue. It may be inappropriate -- particularly in the absence of all the facts -- to characterize this as government brutality or government crushing of business. As I understand it there is a history between Gibson and these rare woods regulators. Is Gibson totally innocent? I certainly don't know -- it is a question of complicated facts. Could Gibson have found some surreptitious and barely legal or ambiguously legal/illegal way to circumvent the rules or stretch the rules? Would they do so in the interests of providing what is intensely desired by their customers? Whether or not they are an "American institution" or not, I don't find that idea hard to swallow. And I too have in the past owned some Gibson wood -- a 1950s era CF-100 accoustic that I sorely regret having let slip away from me long ago.
So maybe it is premature to hyperventilate about this, at least not until full detailed facts are on the table.
Well, the CEO was on Neil Cavuto today and makes claim his competitors are using the same woods to build their guitars. It certainly sounds very fishy to me when the justice department can come in, take a months worth of product and not have to explain why.
Stay tuned.
