Politics Nothing goes with politics quite like crying and complaining, and we're a perfect example of that.

Default Time: But can Reagan be elected?

Interesting read from way back when Jimmy, the worst president before Obama, was leading Reagan by 25 points in the polls..

Thanks for posting that. Some of you have lived that, but for younger people like me, it's very informative.

Great read FM and thanks for the trip down memory lane. They say history repeats itself and this quote might be pertinent in 2012.

New York Opinion Researcher Daniel Yankelovich sums it up: "The biggest thing Reagan has going for him is Carter."

I was 13 when Reagan was elected. Although too young to be interested in politics even then I could sense a whole new optimism in the air. I know it sounds corny but it really was "morning in America."

II graduated High School in 1985. And finished my college years in 1989. Reagan was my president.

I love this paragraph.

Quote:
This approach to public policy continues to characterize Reagan's 1980 campaign. One of his proposed cures for inflation is the notion that a huge tax cut will restore the productive vitality of the economy and control price rises. Most economists believe this approach is nonsense, that it would simply fuel more inflation. Reagan also asserts that "inflation comes from the Government spending more than the Government takes in. It will go away when the Government stops doing that." Economists say that a balanced federal budget would still trim less than a percentage point from the inflation rate.
In reality, the tax cuts alone ended the Carter inflation, and made the "misery index" a thing of the past. Imagine what could have been if the Democratic lead congress would have kept their end of the deal with the spending cuts that would have just added to the increased revenue the tax cuts caused . I think it is interesting that the main concern they had then was inflation. Growing the economy with the tax cuts seemed to be just a passing thought. It was so bad in 1980, a vibrant growing economy seemed to be too much to hope for, but that is exactly what happened.

I believe that spending cuts are very important, but I think Reagan proved that they are not as powerful to the economy as the growth brought on by freeing up the American people and their money, and by just letting the American people be proud to be Americans again.

Today, we are in a seemingly hopeless state. Really, the only hope we have now is the same thing that happened in the years following Jimmy Carter. Growing the economy is the only way out of this mess, and Obama is doing the opposite by punishing anybody who dares to be productive.

Reagan believed in the American people, and Obama has disdain for the American people.

Obama is devoid of 'hope.' And so was Carter.

Oh yeah,
Just like Reagan, Palin can't win either.

Well since we're bringing back parachute pants and mullets (I still have my black Reeboks that I wore in highschool! ) I want the women to start wearing those mini-skirts and "elf boots" like they all did back when I graduated highschool in '89. PLUS I want the BIIIIIIIG "lions mane" hairstyles, you know the kind that they used a WHOLE bottle of White Rain each morning to make. I just LOVE the big ol "MTV hoes" look, even today!

Bowchickawowow,
HL

ps
Lets just dig Pres. Reagan up and prop him up behind the desk in the Oval Office, at least then all of the arab problems on the globe right now would CEASE. They are STILL scared of that man!!!
