Politics Nothing goes with politics quite like crying and complaining, and we're a perfect example of that.

Default My intuition tells me . . .

I have recently had a dust up with my liberal sister on Facebook. She posted something in her status that I interpreted to be deflecting blame for our economic woes from Obama; I responded with points about (1) the increased deficit spending under Obama versus Bush, (2) the uncertainty created by Obama that is stiffling job creation; (3) the fact that Democrats controlled the house and senate starting in January 2007 and during the first two years of Obama's presidency; (4) the liberal policies that encouraged subprime mortgages (granted, before Obama's time, but I was casting the net wide at this point to treat all Democrats). There is no need to share the details of the exchange. I was left feeling at the end -- intuiting -- that there was more than met the eye. The response was quick. The response was bouyed by a fellow traveller. The quick, sound-byte like responses were seemingly scripted by a Democratic campaign checklist. Some of the terms or ideas that made their appearance were "blame game," "repeating lies," "people who didn't vote for Obama because they are racist," communal guilt for 'Wall Street.' I also found it interesting that this would appear on my sister's Facebook status RIGHT at the time that Obama is on a major new initiative to try to free himself of the anchor of the failed economy. He knows the economy is in trouble; that the economy is not going to improve significantly before November 2012; he knows he has to deflect blame.

Call me paranoid, but I smell a rat. Is there some sort of communication organ operated by the Democrats/Obama that sends out daily propaganda notices to the faithful and tells them to preach the holy writ of Axelrod and the DNC? I'm serious. I'm wondering if there are some sort of twitter mechanisms, texting mechanisms, or other that are used to promote this propaganda machine.

I also recall that this tag team REALLY ripped the Tea Party a new one . . . without identifying any heinous crime that they have committed. One thing they mentioned was that somehow the Tea Party is some old force or organization under new trappings. I didn't know that. I don't know what old organization has been morphed into the Tea Party. Can someone explain that? Is that a new narrative that the Democrats are drafting and letting out there, like a trial balloon?

Comments? Thoughts?

It occurs to me that to compete effectively the Republicans also ought to embrace social media and internet communication networks and use them effectively. One thought occured to me in musing over my unsatisfactory exchange with my sister. As I say, the responses sounded very scripted. I remember years ago there was a funny computer program application that you could run in a UNIX environment. It was all command line driven -- in the days before GUIs and windows. It was a psychoanalysis program. It would start by asking you -- with a displayed line of text -- what you are thinking about. It would reply in text with cliches or stereotyped responses of psychoanalysis:

ME: I'm thinking about the elk hunting season.
Program (PG): Are you thinking about the elk hunting season because of your relationship with your mother?
ME: No, I'm thinking about those wide open pastures and breathtaking ridges.
PG: Do those wide open pastures and breathtaking ridges make you sad.
ME: Hmmm. So I'm also thinking about this project at work. I think the schedule is unrealistic.
PG: Do you think that is because of your father?

You get the idea. So, in the present circumstances the game plan would be to use technology to attack democrats in a witty, artful way that cannot be deflected. How about a program that kind of does the same thing as the psychoanalysis program only substituting Democrat talking points.

ME: I'm really concerned about the deficit.
PG: That is Bush's fault, you know.
ME: I don't know. Bush has been out of office for 2.5 years now. I just think Obama has to bear some of the blame now.
PG: Do you think that is because you are a racist?
ME: No!!! Look, he spent over a trillion dollars and promised things would get better. Things have gone into the sh1tter!
PG: It seems like you are just playing the blame game!

So on and so forth. Of course, this could be adapted somewhat for the current world. For example, rather than the back and forth text exchange where a user inputs text ad hoc (therefore somewhat uncontrolled), how about showing two of those doll-like figures and the computer generated monotone voices that you can create small pseudo-videos with. Do this exchange using two of those characters. You could have a number of these short dialogues, each different, like that, again playing back those absurd Democrat talking point positions, thereby showing them to be absurd and scripted and vapid. People love looking at that kind of stuff on uTube or wherever it comes from. How do you combat it? It is funny, it is just fun, it isn't said by a specific candidate. This is the nature of Saturday Night Live's attacks on Sarah Palin. How do you combat it? There is no standard of fairness or equity they have to comply with. They're comedians, right?!!! Well, steal a play from the playbook of the liberals. Fight fire with fire.

Also, along this line. The Democrats have certainly studied Saul Alinksy's "Rules for Radicals." So have I. Study the ways of your enemy. One of the rules is to hold them to their own standard. No one every lives up to the standards set by their ideology. For Alinsky, he is trying to fight the establishment. Well, now the Democrats and the liberals ARE the establishment. These same ground rules can be used effectively against them. I hope the Republicans who are professional politicians and professional campaign advisors have the cleverness to learn from these kinds of sources and to be innovative.

I'm just guessing here.... This is your younger sister, right? Did you drop her on her head when she was a baby? Your chickens have come home to roost!

I dont genrerally watch all that much television and never bother to watch late nite talkin head comedians. Esspecially when they go through their scripted monolog of bashing and or making comic of political figures, regardless of their leanings. What I dont find amusing is when they go out onto the street and ask the general public questions, that run the gamet from everyday knowledge to current events. Initially one may find it hillarious to hear their responses but the sad fact is these people for the greater part are cluesless as to the world they live in. Perhaps it has always been this way I cannot say for certain, for I dont have anything to gauge it against. Anyways I believe there is a corelation between their lack of knowledge in history and politics that enables others to plant a seed of misconception or twisted fact into their heads that repeated enough, they begin to take as gospel, and these people vote. I often wonder what the state of affairs our country would be in today if the voting age were say 35 instead of having dropped to 18. It is an interesting thought to consider none the less. The propagandist favorite tool is the wedge, and they know how to use it well.
