Go to 7 days/week residential delivery, charge 50cents for a stamp, and when they raise them again, can we go in $.05 increments.
What a great idea. Serious Sal, that would completely drive all the nails in their coffins sooner. Less and less would get shipped via USPS. That would quickly move people to other methods of shipping and or electronic delivery. I'm loving it the idea.

I have no beef with the post office raising its prices. Also, I have no beef with the post office conducting layoffs. It sounds like the labor union that has a strangle-hold on the post office DOES have some problems. If the post office were a bonafide business, it would be free to adapt itself to the current business environment. It smells to me like at least part of its problem results from the constraints and red tape that being a government agency entails. I mean it sounds to me like the post office is operated almost like a federal job agency or a system for meting out favors to people rather than a bonafide business.
The USPS should be split down the middle and half sold to FexEx and the other half to UPS. They know how to do it profitably and it wouldn't cost the taxpayers one red cent. If the cost of mailing letters goes up as a result then at least the consumers/users are paying for it instead of the taxpayer. Email, texts, pdf, faxes etc have rendered mail useless anyway. Was a time when stage coaches and buggy whips were the thing but obviously time made better and faster options.
I'm for getting rid of as many federal workers as possible and this is one great place to start! I know some great postal workers but I know far more that have the gumption and energy of a cypress log. Folks need to just accept the fact that the USPS is an outdated business model. Doesn't mean the folks in that system are bad, just means they are being passed by technology. 100 years ago we needed alot more horseshoes than we need today, the blacksmith had to find a new calling and I think the postal worker and those who rely on the mail service should as well.
