Politics Nothing goes with politics quite like crying and complaining, and we're a perfect example of that.

Those SEALS were killed yesterday or today in Afghanistan when their helicopter was shot down: They were from SEAL Team Six. Some news reports say 31 US military and 7 Afghans were on that helo.

It's time to get out of the Afghan crap hole.

Prayers for the troops and their families. This is sad news.

We've been in Afghanistan since 2001, Iraq since 2003 and have "partnered" with Pakistan for even longer. We've had some success, made some mistakes and are in that tricky position where we think we can see success around the corner (al queda is demonstrably weakened). At some point, we have to think separately about the real costs of these wars. Obama says it's about $1.3 trillion but others are saying the costs are as high as $3.7 trillion.

If congress and Obama are seriously considering reducing spending on the military, they need to get us out of all 3 countries and Libya as well. I would much rather cut a few wars off instead of reducing assistance and care for our troops.

Why are we still there?

I remember a senator voting against these wars from the start, hmmm?

Should we ever have gone in, in the first place?

Imagine if the money we spent on these wars was spent on things that actually made the USA money.

Aren't these wars something like $300 million a day?

About that. Those are the upfront costs. Gurus put the long term cost of the Iraq war at 3.5-4.0 trillion dollars. There's the interest on the money borrowed to fight the war, replacement of equipment destroyed or worn out in the war, families of KIA troops to take care, wounded troops and their families to care for, etc.

It's time to find out who is leaking information in Washington. I'm boiling just thinking about it. Our special forces are to be protected. Not tossed around by the media and a rat in the White House who is obviously sharing info with the wrong Afgan officials.

That's the biggest loss in a single fight in Afghan. All people died in a crash. Consider they are the people who knew what happened in "Operation Geronimo", are they all silenced to keep the secret of the government?

Just a guess.

HD, I don't think it would do either one of us any good to see an optometrist. I can see the keyboard and print on the monitor just fine and assume you have the same ability. There wouldn't be much for an optometrist to work with on our vision.

Where we seem to have different abilities is in how we interpret what we read. I gave a specific example in my post that you quoted above and was talking about some measure of success in our original goal which was to capture/kill Osama and weaken or destroy al queda.

Your post (which includes the above quote from me) speaks about the type of governments you see the nations I mentioned and Egypt forming.

Your observation that 4 middle eastern countries are forming theocratic governments is obviously cause for concern BUT that isn't what I was talking about and, more importantly, isn't something I wrote about. You're obviously free to expand (or even hijack the topic) at your leisure but your post makes assumptions about my post that aren't correct and weren't in my post.

I wish it were only that much. I believe it costs the US 10 to 12 Billion per week for both wars. Like I said time to get them all home. That 1 weeks worth of war money could go a long ways to build proper safeguards for the US border. Hire Americans to build it...what a novel idea and a better use of our tax payer money.
