Default MIL retirement

Jan 7th 1991 joined the most powerful Air Force known to the world...1995 re-enlisted for 4 years...1999 re-enlisted for 6 years...2005 re-enlisted for 6 years and at the 14 year marked agreed with uncle sam that I elected NOT to take a 30,000 upfront cash prize to convince me to accept 40% of basic pay for my 20 year retirement, I elected 50% with no money upfront....2011...special group put together by our government to look at rising military retirement cost recommends changing my retirement to a 401K style retirement where as the government decides how much to contribute....after 21 years of faithful service??? I doubt anyone would consider this fair considering I have fulfilled every aspect of my contracts with uncle sam...kinda of a kick in the nuts I say...39 years old...was promised 50% retirement and 21 years in I have to come up with a NEW retirement plan...now mind you this still needs to be approved by congress and senate...but come on...what would a senator care right?? One term in office and they receive a lifetime retirement with full benefits....I tell ya...getn old being the nations political power tool...only to be used over and over as the first "cost saving" initiative....how about attack some of the wasteful spending 1st...Am I off base here??? Any vets got some input??

I am not a vet, but I agree the government needs to live up to it's promises. Changes such as those suggested should be 'grandfathered' so lifers don't feel they got a kick in the pants on their way out. 401k retirement plans relieve the government of it's burden to provide pensions, but cripes they're SO dependent on market trends as to be almost viable no longer. For instance, my 401k was up over 9%, recovering over the course of the year until our idiot government signed the BS debt ceiling adjustment and now most of the year's recovery is wiped clean on a dive by the DOW. For your sake, I hope the House of Representatives stands against this change.

This has the stench of democrat all over it....whenever there's a budget issue, they look to cut the military spending rather than fix the tax code or root out waste, fraud and corruption in their entitlement programs....pukes.

I agree with you on everything but the part about members of congress working 1 term and retiring with full pay--that's not correct. Here's a link (see below) that explains how to calculate the congressional retirement.

It's always the little guy giving back benefits etc...

Keep voting republican, this is what you get!

Why pay a ceo 750k/yr instead of 1.5mil/yr, when we can just take it from all the little guys.

Reap what you sow!

Republicans, the party of billionaires and big business, nothing more.

How many teachers, union works, auto workers etc..have given back contracted money, what's the difference in your case? Just another example...

WHo's the party with the richest membership ? THE DEMOCRATS. Who's the party that, at the last election, cornered the market in donations from Wall Street? The DEMOCRATS>

You pigs play both sides of the fence, milking big business and stroking union fat cats for the support of their idiot membership.

Why wouldn't you play both sides of the fence when you have folks like Sal suching up this BS propaganda like gravy on a biscuit.

Hey Sal, which party represents the richest districts in the US? Which party represents the poorest?

Oops, I'm a disabled vet. My take on this depends on how well they continue to attrack the talent. For years re-enlistment bonuses depended on need and for some, there was no need. If they are able to still fill the ranks, so be it.

Regarding congress and the pres, I would cut them off of any retirement. Government service is suppose to be noble not make you wealthy.

The military has been getting screwed for decades. During the Viet Nam war soldiers who lost a leg below the knee got 60-80% disability on a medical retirement. The Bush bunch decided that was too much for a common soldier and gave their troops 20-30 percent for the same wound. That carried over to the Obama bunch.

If you think that either the Republican pukes in congress or the Democrat pukes in congress care about the troops i have some arid land in the LA gulf for sale at a good price.

Government deals are subject to change. Not surprising and I don't think you should be surprised, you've worked for them and I'm sure they've given you plenty of reasons to be suspicious.

What is the other deal? I can't tell. Maybe they'll give you the option of accepting that one too. Sound like the way it's been in the past.

I'll tell you what to do, make it threatening to homosexual females with children and you'll get 100% and a kiss on the arse.
