I'm still waiting for it. You see government in the legislation process is suppose to propose bills and debate them on the floor. Then they have a vote. This occurrs in both chambers. Then there is suppose to be a conference committee between the chambers to work things out. We all are suppose to hear live debate from the chambers not BS in the media.
So if you are wondering where the compromise is, it can't get going until the Senate passes a fricking bill. Cut, Cap and Balance is the bill on the table leaving the house. Harry, if you don't like that one, get something passed in the Senate.
Anyone curious why we haven't heard from one of the 23 democrats in the Senate that campaigned on a balance budget amendment? Pretty quiet aren't they?

You will not see a compromise until Boehner caves in and it looks like he has made his threats today. The LSM media has given the Senate and the Executive branch a free pass and the House is to blame for this fiasco especially the newly elected Representatives. I believe that the credit reporting agencies are even in on this one to continue to state the U.S. will drop in rating yet ***an dropped to a AA rating and their percentage rating is 1.09% while the U.S. is currently at 3.0% expected to rise to 3.75% if dropped to AA rating so how does this math work out? I say the House holds all the cards, damn the media biases, let this house of cards fall. I have not heard one thing about any Government cuts in pay, benefits or retirement plans yet wants to put it off on entitlements that they crafted in the beginning. Give me a break corruption is always prevalent when power is in control. There is not one thing that can believed 100% in this day in age of technology but hopefully common sense with the average Joe out there will prevail or we are all doomed for a revolution.

Things must happen but this "joe" can't help notice something every time I'm in public, the people. On a rare day when I see the people I think we may give a good showing of ourselves if trouble breaks out. On the vast majority of days I think the end will come quick if any militia be formed from this people. On a brighter note it should take a very long time to starve this people out.
The average joe has already been pegged, feed his base desires and you can do whatever you want. If an indicator like TV is used the people will suffer insult after insult and still pay for the privilege because TV feeds some of those base desires. The politician has little to fear until average joe pulls the plug. Fat chance (pun intended).
It's getting interesting enough for me now, just heard there's talk of using the 14th amendment. That's rich, that's government. What most don't understand about our constitution is while it gives us all kinds of freedom through restrictions of government, it gives government the right to over ride them if it's deem for the good of the country. That fact was firmly established right out of the war that made it legit. It's supposed to send chills down the backs of every American and cause them to become sick at the thought of empowering said monster, but it doesn't. It's not just ignorance that's the cause although that is a big part of it, it's hate and envy and jealousy. Those are the driving motivators of our entire system of government and it's people. How long can something like that last before consuming itself?
Here's how I see it. The House originated and passed a bill last week that, among other things, raised the debt ceiling. This bill did not pass in the Senate. I'm not even sure it was brought to the floor of the Senate. Can anyone answer that question? So maybe, if it was never brought to the floor of the Senate for a vote, the toadies of Obama in the Senate prevented the opportunity for some sincere Democrats voting with the large number of Republican senators (say 45 Republican senators who would vote yes?) to get this solved.
It looks like the House may pass another alternative bill to raise the debt ceiling. The question would then be, what will the Senate do? Bring it to the floor of the Senate for a vote or suppress it in committee?
I think if the Republican House has brought two black letter bills to vote on the floor of the House and passed both bills, they can well feel they have done their part.
Something that gets missed in all the squabbling are the alternatives. One alternative is that the debt ceiling is not raised. That is a viable option. It doesn't happen until a vote makes it happen. What if the spending ceiling is not raised? The government will not be able to spend as much as they are used to. They will actually not be able to further dig themselves -- excuse me, dig me and my children and you and your children -- further into debt. And that is a bad thing HOW? Ok, is a bit awkward. It will be a bit disruptive. Can we live through disruptive? Sure. Think about it. How long was all air traffic shut down in Europe a couple years back when that volcano in Iceland spouted off? People in UK, France, and Germany stranded and can't get home to the US. People in the US can't return to their homes in UK, France, and Germany. Well, maybe that is trivial, a small insignificant number of people. You may well recall that last October all he11 broke loose in France when they raised the minimum retirement age from 60 years to 62 years. Public transportation largely ceased for a month -- trains, buses. Dock workers did not load or unload ships. Refinery workers stopped working at refineries. Many gas stations ran out of gasoline as a conseqeunce of refinery stoppages and truck driver strikes. Now THAT was disruptive for the some 60 million French people. It went on for a month. They survived.
So, the Republican House has done their deal. They will have passed two entirely suitable bills. Remember, the status quo is no more deficit spending after August 2, and that isn't necessarily a bad thing.
I hear people say the House can't act like a dictator. They are not. They are execising their constitutional powers. The debt ceiling is there for a purpose -- to limit our debt. Obama and his cult have increased government spending from 19% of GDP as a 40 year average to 26% of GDP. If you want to know how much of an increase that is, just punch up 26/19 on your calculator. My calculator tells me that is a 37% increase in spending!!!! Now, this is a spending problem, not a taxing problem. The GDP has not shrunk significantly since 2008. If you say it has, please produce numbers. The democrats are spending money like a drunk sailor, they are operating without a passed budget. Who is the dictator, who is irresponsible?

Alsatian, you are spot on with all that. And, as far as this cry for compromise, raising the debt ceiling should be the compromise line. The House should quit putting up proposals, and communicate the fact that they have already done their part passing 2 bills.
The only thing I would differ with you on is even a "drunken sailor" knows when to quit even if he quits because he passes out.
Obama and the democrat's have spent like sober socialist since 2008, and that is much worse than a drunken sailor.

Compromise? Not when 53 Senators sent a letter to the House Speaker stating that they would rather go through a default then pass the House Bill. Whos the Party of NO now. Nothng of any real subtance will be taken up with this body of fools until changes are made in 2012.
Ya know, where the hell was the call for compromise in Obamiecare. That was a closed door session for crying out load.
Agreed....I think boehner should shut the lights and cut the mikes...take a vote in private with the dems locked out. DREAM scenarios notwithstanding, I don't see the 'beef' in the new boehner bill. He's not cutting anywhere near what he should cut, the cuts are tiny and they occur over a long stretch of time....it would take an eternity to pay our debts....

...do you know how long a year is in eternity ? (First Rush - by Chris Rush)
....the time it would take to pay our debts should not be measured in geologic time.....well, you get the idea....
I have to agree with Rush's assessment today. A trap is being set. Reid and company don't have a bill. They plan on marking up the house bill in an attempt to force the house to pass it in the name of compromise. That's all the more reason to pray this new bill never makes it out of the house. CUT, CAP AND BALANCE should stand as the house bill.

A substantial reduction can be had simply by capping spending. The current (non-existent) "budget" contemplates 7 1/2% increases in government spending every year. WHY? Rep. Connie Mack (Fla) has suggested the elimination of those contemplated increases, together with a 1% reduction in all spending, and this gets us to a balanced budget, I believe in 6-8 years. (Note... I'm a little fuzzy on the details, so, don't hang me if I'm off by a percentage point or a year or two....)
