I' ve been watching the democratic candidates on C-Span
As the old mantra goes..." It pays to know ones enemy" ...I' ve been paying close attention to the various " wannabee' s" on C-span as they parade around saying whatever sounds good to whatever the " audience of the day" is.
There' s a whole slew of them contending for the position of " top-dog" in the primaries.
There is one issue that for some reason seems to NEVER come up on these democratic party debates...that would be terrorism, and how it affected our economy.
There are no answers on how to counter the threat to America, nor are there any answers about how to make Americans feel good enough to start spending their money again.
RE: I' ve been watching the democratic candidates on C-Span
when you listen to them , you can see that they really haven' t got a clue , i' m not worried about this election , it' s the next one in 2008 that scares me
RE: I' ve been watching the democratic candidates on C-Span
First of all...terrorism has not affected our economy as much as some think! For a while perhaps in the short term but not in the long term. It started slowing down during the last quarter of Clinton' s presidency.
2nd of all....there are NO democratic candidates that impress me at all at this time.
RE: I' ve been watching the democratic candidates on C-Span
Cougar, I must disagree with your statement about how much terrorism has effected our economy.
There are some among us who are gonna get paid the same no matter what the current economic conditions. The military, firefighters, most union folks like teachers or power company employee' s.
There are however, many among us who make a living at the leisure of the consumer. Real estate agents, tour guides, store owners, or like myself...Motel people.
The suddeness of the lack of people taking advantage of going out and enjoying themselves after Sept.11 can not be overstated enough. I feel confident when I say that across the country, folks are STILL not traveling like they used to.(Pre-Sept.11th)
But that statement probably needs a little expounding upon. All things are related, Kind of like the theory that if a duck farts in china, it ultamately causes a thunder storm in Kansas.
If not for Sept.11' th, chances are good that we would not have been in two shooting wars in as many years. Chances are good that the airport security screening farce would not be in effect, and folks might actually ENJOY getting on a plane from time to time. Chances are that folks might be a little more willing to fly to Europe if the frogs were' nt such jerks. Chances are that any number of things would have turned out different than they currently are.
The difficulty that I see with those in the democratic party and just some folks in general is; they do not tend to relate any two issues, when in fact they ARE related. So, instead of understanding how a few planes flying into a few buildings could possably effect the overall desire for folks to get out and travel,,,It' s much easyer to just blame George Bush.

In other words things were already set in motion for an economic down turn before Bush ever entered the picture, by the way I think I can remember Bush saying something like that in the summer and early fall of 2000 and the liberals, the media and the democrat party thought he was nuts. Maybe Goerge knew more than what everyone thought, or is it that the demmies could' nt own up to what was happening to slick and his great economy.

I believe if we look hard, we see that the economy actually started to stagger half way through clinton' s second term.
Terrorism has had a serious effect on the economy I believe.....First a serious blow to the airline industry...and that has ripples all over the country.
But then we spent the money to take out Bin Laded then Saddam. That' s a serious lot of goods dropped in war that could have been used for other things...
If the lefties think " the economy" is their ticket back to the whitehouse, they' re going to have a hard sell to most the folks I know.
