In the last few months I have noticed a trend, Folks who were once die hard liberals are refusing to own up to the name. It' s almost like the term " liberal" has become a cuss word.
Instead, we hear the terms " free thinking democrat" or " conservative minded democrat" or, if really pressed on any given topic that is a genuine liberal " give away" issue we hear...." I' m not a member of either party...I just think that so-and-so should be the law" .
Actually I think that true liberalism is on the down turn, as one ages they normally tend to become more conservative in thier views due to real life experiences rather than living a life of dreams. I have seen a lot of friends change thier liberal stances as they get older and realize that liberalism is nothing but a dream that can not come true.

I have slowly become more conservative as I grow older, but will never be a true total conservative. Why? Because if left wing and right wing ideas could really be put together and the best ones used....what a blessing that would be. But alas, that will never happen because there are very very few if anybody who has the guts to really endorse this idea, or not enough voters would ever vote for a moderate.
Taz, I think, summed it up rather well. I would like to add that as liberal ideas are instituted and fail or adversely effect liberals themselves they like to distance themselves from the idea regardless of what they really believe.
As soon as something cost you in one form or another, you tend to give it much more consideration before you jump on the band wagon.

The democrat party has changed alot in the last few decades, they have gone to doing some really stupid things just to garner votes and it is time for them to pay the fiddler and they are paying pretty dearly.
I was raised in a democrat home and so was my wife, The republicans did' nt convert us over to their side the democrats did and mostly within the clinton years.

i agree that we need more moderates but , the liberals are way out of control . i can' t believe some of the things i' ve heard them say that they want to do. i also grew up in a devilcrat home and they are way different now than before , it' s more of a power kick since clinton was in and they just seem to be getting worse. my family was one that voted mainly by party affiliation and never took the time to watch any debates or anything which i think is a big problem today with a lot of the voters. they just go on what they were brought up to believe and don' t do any fact finding for themselves , back to my family , as i said , i grew up in a devilcrat home and turned to be a republican during the reagan years ( in my opinion , the greatest president we ever had ) when i was in my later teen years and started to take an interest in current and global events ( the falling of the berlin wall ) , that was when i started to see who was really more for the furthering of this nation , i still get in debates with my grandfather whom i' m starting to turn republican , like i did to my mom , aunt , uncle , step father. the conservatives just make more sence to me
