Boehner: Obama Veto Threat Shows Unwillingness To Cut Spending
Tuesday, July 19, 2011
By Eric Scheiner(CNSNews.com) - House Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) is calling President Barack Obama’s threat to veto the Cut, Cap and Balance Act as evidence he’s not “serious” about making budget cuts.
“While American families have to set priorities and balance their books, this White House obviously isn’t serious about making the same tough choices, “ Boehner said in a videotaped statement on his website.
“While the House once again acts responsibly, the Administration still won’t present a plan or even say what cuts it’s willing to make to end Washington’s spending binge and the economic uncertainty that it’s creating.”
Boehner later adds, “This unfortunate veto threat should make clear that the issue is not congressional inaction, but rather the President’s unwillingness to cut spending and restrain the future growth of our government.”
Barry sure is showing he’s not willing to work together to get this country back on track, and he is showing he doesn’t give a flip what the American people want. This dictator has got to go and so do the rest of his left wing wackos.
Im with IP.....the commies have been wanting to do this since the 60's....now that one of those scumbags holds the reigns of power, he's gonna try his best to destroy the greatest financial system the world has ever known. Once it's destroyed, the attempt to rebuild it from the ground up in Marxist fashion can commence....
It is interesting. Consider what the status quo is. The status quo is -- if nothing else is done -- the debt ceiling remains as it is. Now it seems to me that if Obama thinks he is holding all the cards, he hasn't considered what the status quo is. If he thinks there is no other way than raising the debt ceiling, he is mistaken. Frankly, the debt ceiling was put in place to constrain spending. If the debt ceiling is not raised . . . . then spending will be constrained. I don't see this as bad.
Others have bruited about the sky falling if the debt ceiling is not raised. Balderdash. There is a lot of revenue -- things will be paid on a prioritized basis. Not all things will be paid. Spending will be curtailed, at least temporarily. Maybe all the government employees and other Democrat clients won't be paid. Ouch. That really hurts me. Who stands to lose? Most of those people vote for their Democrat war lords anyway -- they aren't going to vote Republican. Maybe, though, they'll hold it against Obama if he vetoes?
I think Boehner needs to repeat Obama's language back to him: "Don't call my bluff!" I think much worse things can happen than sticking to principle on this. Let the house of Representatives vote a package of no taxes and significant spending cuts in the house. What will the Senate do? I don't think those guys believe the sun rises and sets in Obama's eyes any more. Being a US Senator is a pretty cush job. Can't Republicans peel off two or three Democrats to vote for the house bill? Maybe. What does Obama do then, remain intransigent? When a real approved measure to raise the debt ceiling is on the table? I guess we might just have to find out.
But I think having put an approved plan on the table, the Republicans don't have to feel any particular desperate urgency to respin some other bill. Again, the sky will not fall, what is REALLY necessary will be paid for.
That is the main point here. What REALLY needs to be paid for? There are too freakin' many people and things that are parasites living on the federal dole. Time to ween those leeches, just a bit.
Apparently Obama has never played poker. Who in their right mind would tell the other players "Don't call my bluff"??? He's just shown his hand. He said that he is bluffing...
More like a lot. But that will not happen leeches = democrat voters.
I agree it is time the republicans grow a sack and pass a balanced budget. A lot of democrat senators are up for re-election and Obama does not have "coat tails." Republican senators may be able to get enough to vote with them.
Call the bluff Boehner.

You guys know more about this kind of stuff than I do. But it seems to me that Alsatian is right on the money. It isn't as though the government will be out of money, they just won't be able to borrow any more.
It would be like throwing away your credit cards. You would still have your job and your paycheck. You would just be on a cash basis for everything.

and that's just the point. LOts of folks have been saying the same thing on different threads...on the news....etc. Obama wants to repeat his lie so many times that people perceive it as the truth.
To be perfectly frank, there will be no weaning from the government teat. IT's cold-turkey, plain and simple. THe democrats are correctly 'called' insofar as they will not vote republican....but they may not vote at all in 2012. Even the democrats are beginning to come to the realization that obama is out of his league in this fight. What an embarrassment....the president of the United States out of his league on a domestic budget bill. How UNremarkable a man he actually turned out to be.....
I would like to amend that to (leeches = all people over the age of 65). As I stated over and over and over, no meaningful cuts are politically possible. You can squabble all you want over a few billion here or there but when you look at unfunded liabilities in the 100s of trillions of dollars earmarked for those over the age of 65, it seems a bit inane.
For your information horseypuck, many people over 65 are still working and paying into social security, people who have paid into it all their working lives.
You should be thoroughly ashamed of yourself for referring to those people as leeches. You yourself are a nothing but a leech taking advantage of the benefits of the world that those people built for you, unwilling to contribute your share. a world that you apparently have neither the brains, the will, or the guts to maintain.
