Politics Nothing goes with politics quite like crying and complaining, and we're a perfect example of that.

Smile This might be some good news...

Polls in Iowa show Romney with 23%, but Bachman right behind with 22%.

Looks like it might turn into a real contest.

It will be interesting to see how Bachmann does after time passes and she is interviewed and adds to debates. Just like when Palin came onto the scene people were attracted to her because she was a fresh face and wasn't a Washinton insider. She lost much of her new following when she spoke. Bachmann seems to be able to handle herself quite well under pressure at least from watching her in that debate a week or two ago. I wonder if her early success in the polls has kept Palin from jumping in.

I think Palin has said she isn't interested in running for public office. I take her at her word, when she resigned from the governorship of Alsaka, that she would work in other ways -- other than as an elected official -- to accomplish political goals. It seems to me she has been very effective so far in just that activity. Her showing up to support candidates in the 2010 election I think was a strong help to those people. Because she is not a candidate, she is not attacked by the mainstream news media as she otherwise would be. I think there is a zero chance of her running, because she has seen enough of that mainstream attack dog to not want any further part of it. There is more than one way to skin a cat. It isn't like she has to be elected to make money -- she can make more money writing books and whatever. She clearly has a strong influence on politics -- witness our talking about her and others talking about her.

I can agree with that. Makes sense.

She's popular in Iowa because she's from Iowa.

I caught her on Face the Nation this morning, I wish she would just answer the damn questions!

Although she is popular in some areas of the country I believe that she is too polarizing to get the nod.

I'm betting that she'll be on the ticket as a VP candidate.

Red face

I believe she represents Minnesota.

I hope she doesn't take a VP nomination. That woiud be too much like the token woman thing and also could turn into Palin II.

She doesn't even have her website up yet. She needs to get moving if she's a serious candidate.

Romney has a solid business background.

But I would like to see him come out solidly in favor of our second amendment rights. I get tired of hearing about "assault weapons." Any gun is an assault weapon.

I would also like to see him announce that he is now unreservedly anti-abortion.

I'll forgive him for Massachusett's Romneycare if he announces that he will immediately sign any bill Congress passes completely revoking Obamacare.

I'm a little concerned because I don't see anyone out there that looks like a conservative and also looks like he/she could win the election. But it's early yet.

Yes she is from Minnesota now, but was born in Waterloo Iowa. She has a pretty impressive resume in her own right.

Her and her husband have raised 5 children of their own as well as taking in 23 foster children.

They haven't made the kind of money that Romney has, but her and her husband are successful business people.

Add that to a successful political career here in Minnesota and it shows me that she's got quite a bit going for her.

It's not that I don't want to see her make a good run at it, but I don't believe she can win against Obama in 2012. She's a polarizing lightning rod for sure. But I feel that will be her undoing. I don't think that she'll be able to pull in enough of the independent's, and lets face it, their the one's that are going to decide the election.

If she gets the nod I'm afraid the election will be lost. It's not that I don't like Michell, because I do, it's that I just don't believe she can go all the way.

Cool

I just read some comments by Bachman that suggests some unclear thinking, in other words the ability to put her foot in her mouth.

She says she thinks same-sex marriage should be left to the states. And then she says that, if she were elected president she would propose a consctitutional amendment to define marriage as between a man and a woman.

So which one is it lady?

Also, is she aware that, as a member of Congress, she could offer up such an amendment tomorrow?

She still gets attacked every now and then.

Yup, she's been known to do that from time to time, but it seems as though they all eventually do.

Look at Newt, he pretty much started, and ended his run on the same Sunday morning show. It would seem as though he's been on a down hill run ever since.
