Lady Thatcher of course has it right. Too bad our president will not accept this way of thinking. But as we crawl our way toward November 2012 it is heartening to know we may put more people into government who understand where "public money" comes from.
Thatcher was one of the great leaders of our time.
"The Prince of Fools" is worse than just a bad leader...he is destructive of the American way of life, and he is a leader in name only.
2012 can't come fast enough for us to lift the yoke of this national embarassment.
it's quite amazing...I somewhat remember the Carter Administration...and I remember him being regarded as less than effective....but I do not remember him being an embarrassment to the country until much later in his life. I am genuinely embarrassed by the current leadership of this country;the democrats are not democrats any longer..they have become the cold-war enemies we were always warned about (socialists) and the republicans have become so spineless as to not stand for anything, let alone stand opposed to the socialists. The Europeans s****** up their sleeves at us for our collective stupidity in electing the current destroyers into power and I can say nothing in our defense which could be construed as anything remotely resembling support.
And the sorriest thing of all, despite the utter failure of this administration, and
despite the collapse of the economy and crushing national debt, and
despite the catastrophic devaluation of our homes and retirement accounts,
the POS-in-Chief still has a 46% FAVORABLE RATING (as of 6/24 as per Rasmussen).
That's the BIGGEST embarrassment of all !
I feel the reason we are so screwed by the "leadership" in Washington is they were all put there by a society raised believing in entitlements from the goverment..Welfare...WIC...food stamps ECT. I am not implying these programs are not necessary for those who come into hard times...but they should not be used as a LIFESTYLE. That being said, these receivers of these entitlements are the targeted audience of the left when Election Day comes around. Why is it legal for state sponsored college education for illegal immigrants in this country but the hard working taxpaying American can’t afford to send his kid to college?? It is one more program to recruit another group of handout takers to back the on going reelection of the breeders of the socialist agenda in Washington. How have we become so blind and allowed our country to be ripped away from those who pay taxes and our bills on time?? Why have I been paying into social security since I was 17 only to feel that there will be nothing to draw when I hit retirement age?? Why is it OK that I have paid my mortgage on time but have seen the power of the US dollar be watered down by over printing of currency to bail out banks that loaned mortgages to those they KNEW couldn’t afford the homes they were buying?? Why???? Because our NEW society doesn’t have to be responsible anymore...there is or will be a government program to bail out those who don’t want to earn a living but receive an entitlement....that way they can drive a Cadillac...wear the latest Fubu clothing line, the newest Nike shoes..buy top shelf steaks and paying for it all with a wrist covered in gold as they hand the cashier a food stamp debit card.

Bergall we are probably about the same age, I am 45. Jimmy Carter is your typical well meaning democrat. Too bad "well meaning democrats" have a problem with reality. I'm sure Jimmy Carter negotiated in good faith but his handling of the Iran hostage situation was a national embarrassment.
I am too young to remember much more than that. I do recall Jimmy Carter was generally considered buffoonish.

I agree with everything above except for 1 observation.
The banks wrote mortgages for people who could not pay them, because they were compelled to do so by legislation passed during the administration of 'The Great Stain Maker" himself, WIlliam Jefferson Clinton. The denial of mortgage loans to certain classes of people would be met with fines from the federal government...bankers are, in my opinion, a dour lot who would never consider lending money to anyone who could not demonstrate the ability to pay it back in spades. The liberal strikes again....
Thomas Jefferson said in 1802:
“I believe that banking institutions are more dangerous to our liberties than standing armies.
If the American people ever allow private banks to control the issue of their currency, first by inflation, then by deflation, the banks and corporations that will grow up around the banks will deprive the people of all property - until their children wake-up homeless on the continent their fathers conquered.”
Here are some interesting facts about one of our forefathers:

At 5, began studying under his cousin's tutor.

At 61, was elected to a second term as President.

At 83, died on the 50th anniversary of the Signing of the Declaration of Independence along with John Adams
Thomas Jefferson knew because he himself studied the previous failed attempts at government. He understood actual history, the nature of God, his laws and the nature of man. That happens to be way more than what most understand today. Jefferson really knew his stuff. A voice from the past to lead us in the future:
John F. Kennedy held a dinner in the white House for a group of the brightest minds in the nation at that time. He made this statement: "This is perhaps the assembly of the most intelligence ever to gather at one time in the White House with the exception of when Thomas Jefferson dined alone."
“When we get piled upon one another in large cities, as in Europe, we shall become as corrupt as Europe .” -- Thomas Jefferson
“The democracy will cease to exist when you take away from those who are willing to work and give to those who would not.”
-- Thomas Jefferson
“It is incumbent on every generation to pay its own debts as it goes. A principle which if acted on would save one-half the wars of the world.”
-- Thomas Jefferson
“I predict future happiness for Americans if they can prevent the government from wasting the labors of the people under the pretense of taking care of them.” -- Thomas Jefferson
“My reading of history convinces me that most bad government results from too much government.” -- Thomas Jefferson
“No free man shall ever be debarred the use of arms.” -- Thomas Jefferson
“The strongest reason for the people to retain the right to keep and bear arms is, as a last resort, to protect themselves against tyranny in government.”
-- Thomas Jefferson
“The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.” -- Thomas Jefferson
“To compel a man to subsidize with his taxes the propagation of ideas which he disbelieves and abhors is sinful and tyrannical.”
-- Thomas Jefferson
