The law needs to be repealed. Hopefully the 2012 election works to that effect. This has GOT to be one of the major election issues of 2012 -- not just presidential race but legislative races as well. Did you vote to approve Obamacare? OK. Did you vote to repeal Obamacare? (I think the House did in fact pass such a measure, but the Senate either didn't take up the measure or have voted it down). Stand up and be counted.
It is fundamentally stupid to make revolutionary change in large systems such as healthcare. The intelligent, experienced, wise man knows that the brilliance of human beings -- all human beings -- is limited. In this context, you take a small babystep, look at what the result of this babystep was, and take your next step going forwards based on analyzing the result of the first babystep. Fundamental engineering feedback control system sort of stuff. Why do these geniuses do this?
My theory it isn't that they are stupid. My theory is that they do this because they don't give a crap that the system will or will not work. What they care about is changing the fundamental nature of our government, to make the federal government dominant and all controlling. It certainly hasn't always been this way. Speaking for myself, I don't WANT the federal government to dominate my life.
Who doesn't see where this is going? Once all healthcare is paid for in a single payer system with GOV being the payer . . . what committee and/or bureaucrat gets to decide what diet we follow? Can I eat a well marbled rib eye steak? Maybe more on point . . . can I go to a grocery store and buy a well marbled rib eye steak? Can I go to a steak restaurant and buy a well marbled rib eye steak and a baked potato waiting for me to stun it with ample dollops of butter and sour cream? Will everyone be treated equal, or will different rules apply to obsese people versus those who keep their weight down? What will be "right sized?" Is this going to be BMI less than 25? I'm 6' 2", and to have a BMI less than 25 I have to weigh less than 195 LBS. I'm telling you, that is a very meager weight for me. Now the on-line discussion of BMI offers the exception that the recommendation doesn't apply to "atheletes." Do I qualify as an athelete? I train to be able to go on 50 mile backpacking trips in the mountains -- 9 k' to 12 k' elevations. I run 3 miles every other day; I do strength exercises in between days? Would it be as hard to qualify as an athelete as it is to get these stupid flex benefits payments validated?
That is what is coming -- in my opinion -- if we go to a GOV single payer system. Once the system is in place, then they will start cranking down the screws. Here will be the thinking. "In exchange for the free healthcare that the government is providing to you, YOU have to take it upon yourself to adopt healthy behaviors, as we define them to be." I see all sorts of issues and unpleasantness with that.
Big government -- either Democrat fomented or Republican fomented -- sukz.
