Neither political party is stupid when it comes to supporting candidates. They will endorse that candidate they believe has the best chance to win. Al Gore is not that kind of candidate (person) at this time. That may change (I think highly unlikely) but if the Democratic Party was sure that Al Gore had the best chance against the Republican candidate, he would be there, front and center. And I disagree with strut...Hillary Clinton will be somewhere in 2004, but it will not be on any presidential ticket. The Democrats will wait until after President Bush has served his second term, which I feel they believe he will, and then get Hillary ready as their possible candidate of choice. A lot can happen between now and then...I guess that' s what makes politics what it is......

in an increasingly whacky race for the governorship of California,
pledging to make lap dances tax deductible and to swap guns for smut if elected.

Mary Carey joins other potential candidates such as " Terminator" movie star
and Republican activist Arnold Schwarzenegger and Democratic Hustler magazine
publisher Larry Flynt, who also covet the embattled governor' s job.

" My goal is to bring happiness to the streets of California," would-be
politician and adult movie star Carey told reporters as she tried to gather
the 65 signatures needed to put her name on the October 7 ballot.

It' s even worse than you thought fng. grayout davis has filed a lawsuit against the recall (no surprise there) in which he argues that he should be allowed to run for governor on the ballot AFTER he is recalled. He is truly klintonian in this hypocrisy. I' m amazed he doesn' t use the meaning of is for a supporting argument. As for the porn star, she' s just another flake in a long list that obviously includes larry flynt. If you look at any CA governor' s election ballot, you' ll find about 20 or so people running in any given race. The majority of those people don' t have a prayer of a chance of winning which is a very good thing for CA. Although it does make you wonder a bit. Maybe she could convince the legislature to actually put out an intelligent budget The pols could feel like they' re screwing somebody and still do something useful for the rest of the state.
