The average male retiring today paid 55k in Medicare but will receive 161k in bennies. The same person retiring 20 years later, pays 84k but receives 251k worth of bennies. So the question, if you never paid for that full benefit, are you be entitled to it? FYI, the only ones who paid for their full benefit? Those of us who make north of 250k/ year.
So what's the solution? Remember, the majority of folks who retire, aren't poor. They have savings and they own their own homes unlike the younger generation just starting out and who are footing this bill. The only thing you do by forcing the youngest among us to pay the bill is to preserve inheritance for someone else.
So man up and chime in with your solution. Don't pull a VC and tuck your tail and run.

The problems we have are just as much Republican as dumo's .Don't give me all that healthcare medicare crap . I was trying to stop it before you were born. I am telling you what is going on. Well then it is people like you who should be barred from Medicare/Medicaid and Social Security. You don't need it so leave it for those who do. However far down your nose you may look at certain types, there are folks dependent on 'em and who are worried they will not be able to depend on it. Using a financial yardstick as the measure by which the dissemination of taxpayer largess is determined won't save the system, but it will serve the 'greedy types' and keep fine upstanding folks like yourself, self-sufficient. That'd be one way to cut down on the strain in the system. Also, I did not see the thread titled "How to cure all the world's ills"...only "How to save Medicare". Fact is that demos are looking to NOT cut spending, but rather, cut short the lives of those dependent on the system. Oh yes and to loot the system as it stands teetering on the brink of insolvency and lambaste any opposition efforts to save the system. To save Medicare, I would suggest financial qualifications as conditions for enrollment or benefits. Obviously, people who can afford to pay their own way, don't need to depend on the taxpayers. Personally, I'd 'put that dog to sleep' in favor of vouchers. These would cut the taxpayer burden for senior health care, and allow folks the freedom to choose their health care providers and the costs associated with it. Then disassemble the entire 'Medicare' infrastructure...that'll be where the REAL money will be saved. The dems are against vouchers because they would not be able to use the tax money slated for medicare as their own personal slush fund....IMO, of course.

I paid as most paid......and employer cost was passed on. What is your point. trust me I was a Bircher and then became a Goldwater conservative. I never got much further than that.
