Politics Nothing goes with politics quite like crying and complaining, and we're a perfect example of that.

Default 77k federal worders making more than the Gov's of their state!

Unbelievable. Can't wait for the link to be posted but Fox is reporting 77k joke more than the governors of their state. Average federal employee salary including bennies? 123k. Private sector, 61k. If this isn't the poster child for out of control government, then nothing is.

Do those #'s include just salary, salary and cost of benefits and, most importantly, do the figures include overtime?

The link.

The story is missing a detailed report.

There is no way to extrapolate any meaningful data from the report. Why do I say that? Simply put, there are too many variables not there.

What's needed is a cost analysis of each states' workers and their private counterparts. Let's face it, the wages to live in some areas are vastly different than other areas. California typically costs more to live in than Wisconsin so their is a wage disparity between the same professionals in the same industry.

At this time, there is no way to determine whether or not anyone is overpaid, and by how much if they are. It's possible that some of the group are overpaid, but there is no way to know without having the full report and then doing a further in-depth analysis.

At this point Fieldmouse is just fueling the anger that the report was meant to generate.

Horsehockey, we have report after report showing the government worker getting paid more than their private sector counterpart. I've only simply put up another link showing that fact.

http://www.usatoday.com/money/econom...pay10_ST_N.htm

http://www.usatoday.com/news/nation/...ers01_ST_N.htm

However, according to the government worker Sfury, we who pay his salary aren't suppose to take notice or speak up.

In the first link you post to it does not compare anything but raw wages for everyone. So you are taking a mostly college educated and highly trained workforce and comparing them to minimum wage earning high school students. Not a good job comparison.

The second link does the same for Wisconsin. The comparisons aren't done properly so the conclusions are suspect at best, misleading at worst.

A proper job study compares all, or as close to all, factors as possible. Seeing as the USA Today data analysis omitted many factors that means the comparison needs to be re-done with the missing data. Until that occurs, your "data" has no value outside of inciting anger.

A proper job analysis would give an accurate comparison of private vs public sector jobs. Until a study is done properly, then you are using Sarah Brady-like contrived numbers that only take a piece of the pie into consideration.

What? Both links compared government workers to their very same counter parts in the private sector. Perhaps articles may have come up, they didnt on my PC but I was pointing to the charts that were apple to apples. Same job filed with the same workers. Government workers are over paid bottomline.

Like I said, you don't believe the people who pay your salary should even question what you earn. You're too important for that right?

I love it when you try to say your highly educated. Your post certainly haven't shown it!

Well, when you have to do a job study that does a comparative analysis of similar jobs, or go over the results from a professional/firm that does those studies, then you will have a clue as to what I'm saying.

Which, is something that I have taken part of as I was a leader in my Union. The facts of those findings oftentimes supported the position that many of the Support Staff positions were in one of three categories.

Comparable Wages & Benefits (most common finding) - Many of our members were paid comparable wages pre-Walker cuts, now they make less

Underpaid Wages & Benefits (second most common finding) - Not very common, but some positions have been proven to be underpaid by various amounts

Overpaid Wages & Benefits (least common finding) - Two such positions during my employment time. Each was set at a higher wage than it should have been. The union actually argued that the pay level was too high in each case, but we were denied putting those positions at the proper pay scale. During the budget cuts over the last few years, both positions have been eliminated now. The problem was caused by administration, and then resolved by the administration.

Until you actually have to deal with wage comparisons, then you will merely not understand why my comments are correct. Such is life.

Yes, only the union paid studies are correct. All of the other studies, which are numorous, are flawed.

Everyone is beneath you correct? Those of us who must negotiate our own wages or set them for those who work for us, just can't possibly understand. Your union boys are so luckey to have the smartest man working for them.

Salaries are determined by what an employer must pay to recruit and retain employees capable of satisfactoraly performing the jobs they are hired to do. That is how labor markets work and the Federal Government is no exception to that principle. If Federal employees are required to have skills and capabilities that are rare and not required by private sector employees it is to be expected that the Government will have to offer a higher level of compensation to be competitive. Since Federal employees are prohibited by law from going on strike, the only leverage they have with their employer is that they can take their skills and work for someone else if they do not receive competitive compensation.

Lemetrie, you are right, that's the way they system is suppose to work. However, its now broke. Study after study is showing government workers, whether state or federal are now earning more than their private counter parts.
