Be careful what you say on line... Apparently a 13 year old kid typed a note on Facebook making the observation that as a result of Bin Laden's death, there might be attempts at retaliation. That got him yanked out of class and interrogated by the SS, without parental notification on counsel present...
Why does that surprise you? How many kids have been held w/o charge under the USA Patriot Act?
I'm not surprised that the Obama administration is sending out a signal that they are keeping tabs on everyone... even 13 year old children on Facebook. Nice way to stifle free speech, isn't it? Who wants people saying how they really feel in the year leading up to an election...
I would have to check with Honorable Husband, but I don't think the police can come in and question the kid at school without the parents or a lawyer. I know they can question a child at school about possible abuse, but that's about the parents, not the child.
I know he's told me that school officials can search a kid's locker, but the police need a search warrant.

i dont understand why they couldn't search a locker on school property, it is the schools property afterall....so if they need a search warrant, it would make since the "police" would need to notify the parent if they question someones child, or rather ask permission...but this wasn't the PO po..it was the "secret service", which really ain't a secret, so it should just be called service....and they have special "privileges" ..eveyone seen Harold and Kumar go to Guantanamo bay? his daddy better be careful..he might get a **** meat sandwich

There is more to this story than what is stated in this article above. The actual part of the Facebook post that lead the Secret Service to this kid is omitted here. I would type it, but since it probably contains buzzwords that are being tracked, I won't. I like my doors ON my hinges.
Another over paid and bloated federal agency has nothing better to do than hassle kids.
I don't know.... every once in awhile a kid goes off his nut and shoots up his school. Then the whole world asks why didn't anybody see it coming and why didn't they do anything to stop it.
Regarding the secret service, it is the most highly regarded law enforcement agency in America. To not question the boy would have been dereliction of duty. I assume they investigate all threats to the president.
I am disappointed that they didn't waterboard the kid. How the heck do we know if the punk was telling the truth without waterboarding? It would be nice if it was a public waterboarding aired live on CSPAN so the whole word could see Americas response to threats against it government. Label the kid an illegal combatant and let the water flow!!!

That would do it. If the kid wears baggy pants without a belt waterboard him at least twice.

And to compound the Secret Service's very bad week on social media, it's also won plenty of adverse coverage for pulling a 13-year-old boy out of school to interrogate him over a Facebook post, without his mother on hand to safeguard his interests
The government security body issued an apology Wednesday after one of its employees seemed to blast Fox News on the agency's official Twitter account, which was registered with the micro-blogging service on May 9.
The offending message (seen at right) was promptly deleted from the account, but not before being re-tweeted. It said: "Had to monitor Fox for a story. Can't. Deal. With. The. Blathering."
