This came up this weekend while folks were discussing race. Blacks in American love to be called now African-American even though they were born here. A friend of my son is white and from Africa. Does that make him African- American?

The way I look at it is if you are a citizen of this country then you are either American or not. Pick America or the other and if you pick the other then go the hell home.
Unless you were born to parents that are citizens of two different countries and can legally claim dual citizenship then you can' be both.

It is less likely to survive a multitude of fools such as those who made him their president."
I’d rather just call them by their name. If they are black and born in American they are black Americans and the white guy from South Africa is a white African American. Hispanics born in America are Hispanic Americans; illegal immigrants are criminals and should be arrested and sent back to where they came from after being flogged!

I agree completely.
I am of ***anese descent. I say that because my ancestors came here over a hundred years ago from ***an.
But I was born in Michigan so that makes me an American.
Not a ***anese-American.
I'm not an Asian either. I'm a North American having been born in North America.
If you refer to race, however, I am a Mongolian.
But, that said, to some people I am an Asian. Until 1967, some states had laws forbidding marriage between "Asians," including people like me and whites. That in spite of the fact that my ancestors have been in this country longer than some white families.
And, unfortunately, to some people, in spite of my denial, I am a ***anese-American, or even to some, a "***." (That should more appropriately be "Nip," since the real name of ***an is Nipon.)
This whole thing gets really weird. Just remember that I'm an American. I say the pledge of allegiance proudly and I always honor the American flag, MY flag.
It looks like the filter removed the letters J-A & P, but you probably guessed them anyway.

True, and I agree. I was just playing on the notion of differentiation among races in this country. Or better yet, the lunacy at which we try to categorize ourselves.
