Time for some new GOP to step up
I see Gingrich, Huck, Romney and Paul are leaning towards a run. Palin and Trump are a long ways down and hopefully don't muddy the waters. Still I think we need someone new to get everyone behind. Obama got OBL and watch him start out on the economy and gas prices just in time to make people forget how miserably he has failed in his first 4 years. I think a good candidate won't have any trouble defeating him but I think we need a fresh face.

The GOP needs new blood: This is their weakest field since 1940. A good candidate would be Joe Huntsman, former UT governor.
Pretty sure ya mean JON Huntsman...
He would be a good one, his Dad would be even better.

I agree that some new blood would be desirable. The problem is that name recognition plays a part in elections. Please correct me if I'm wrong but didn't Reagan lose the first time he went for the nomination?
In the last election, Romney took Michigan, not, I believe, because people were so impressed with him, but because his father is a former governor of Michigan. I wouldn't be surprised if some people saw the name Romney and thought they were voting for the former governor.
What I would like to see is for the most prominent Republicans to get together and throw their support behind one person. They could pick someone whom they know, from personal knowledge, is competent and electable, even if this person was not well known. The way it's done now with these primaries, it's just like some TV popularity call-in thing.
In the meantime, those of us who are not liberals are going to have to come together and agree that the most important issue is replacing Obama and his liberal Democrat majority.
I agree that the Republicans, when they had a majority, did not do a whole lot to advance the conservative agenda, whatever that is. But for all their faults, they didn't give us Obamacare, $4+/gallon gas, and an enormous increase in the national debt.

Yep, typo. His dad would make a fine POTUS. He would'nt need campaign contributions either.
Yep, he gets money from me about every other month too!
Someone good and electable will step up by the end of the year...lets hope!

Too funny. Independents lecturing Republicans on what we need to do. Look where that's got us in the past!

Haaa FM you are so predictable. I knew this was what you would say even before I posted. I brought the topic up for a discussion point and all you want to do is throw darts to make yourself feel important. You are so pathetically predictable. I hope you feel better now that you have prodded with your fingers on the keyboard without adding to the discussion. To the rest of you I will be away all day but start bringing up good candidates. It is about time to start to look at the 2012 GOP presidential candidates.

Let's review CI. we are one debate in and did you even watch the debate live? We have only have a few who have declared. Yet you are already jumping on them. It's not even June. Sorry for. Not having started last year.
Who will the Independents run this year?

I haven't watched any debates since they are for true candidates during election times. As far as jumping on anyone I have made no secret that I am not a Palin or Trump fan. That is my right as a voter to either endorse or dislike a candidate. I actually liked Huckabee and Romney last time around and was disappointed that Romney in particular didn’t get the nod. The economy is the biggest issue in my mind at the moment and was so in 2008. I think a candidate with a business/ financial background would do well to move our nation out of where we are. My point in saying I was looking for someone else to enter the field was that all the above failed to win the primaries in 2008 and therefore were unelectable last time around. I understand that history has shown that people can come back from a defeat and win a subsequent election as DLG has so capably pointed out. I feel 2012 will be one of the most important elections in my lifetime and the opposing candidate needs to be the best there is to eliminate the chance of 4 more years of Obama with the resulting long term damage to our way of life. Independent isn’t a party it is a term to describe a way of life. When I have a difficult task to accomplish I do it myself and don’t ask for help. I realize you feel strongly that everyone should be part of your Republican club but I can cast my vote just as easily and effectively as you can without having some big shot tell me how to vote or asking for money. If Romney is in the race in 2012 I will be able to cast my vote for him in both the primary and fall election if he is the best candidate at the time. I don’t need to call myself a Republican to do that. By being a GOP party member, if you even are, show me how that gives you any more rights or ability to make an informed decision. Most people that vote Republican call themselves a Republican but aren’t signed party members. Some people call themselves Democrat, some Republican and others Libertarian, Progressive and the list goes on. I call myself Independent since I will vote for the best candidate without party affiliation or baggage. If in order to vote in a Primary election you had to join a particular party then it would be different. My right to vote is an important one and if the only way I could do so was to join a party then I would become a GOP party member. Thank goodness it isn’t necessary in my state. As I have previously stated here on HNI many times in the past…I hate partisan politics and IMO this party divide is what has ruined the effectiveness of our government. It has gone way past the intended checks and balances and prevented the best legislation that could help our country from passing. Most of these politians are serving their party rather than the country. Nobody owns me or tells me what to do. That makes me a pretty independent guy.
