Politics Nothing goes with politics quite like crying and complaining, and we're a perfect example of that.

Default Here is a great idea, tax milage. Way to stick it to us Obama.

And who said "No family making under $250,000.000 would see their taxes increased?"

I guess I should just use public transportation instead of getting mad. Wait, there is not public transportation in the country.

Cool

Tax revenues are declining because people are driving smaller, more fuel efficient vehicles. So they're going to punish us by taxing us by the mile. Someone driving a subcompact that gets 50mpg. will pay the same tax as someone driving a Hummer that gets 9mpg.

You can't win with these liberals.

I drive to and from work primarily on a privately built and financed road (Sam Raybourn Tollway). It costs me about $80/month but it is very fast, much faster than going through all the stop lights at every mile along this 14 mile trip. So what Obama is telling me is that I've got to pay my $80/month to use this road plus pay a per mile tax to fund roads?!!!

Also . . . what is the basis for believing that money obtained through this mileage tax would be reserved for funding highways and not confiscated to include in the general fund? Also, would the gasoline tax be abolished or is this just an additional new tax?

It does not smell good to me. And as another has already pointed out, this really just seems to be government clamouring for more money so they can spend more. Reduce the bloody spending! That's the solution.

Why are the Democrats so predictable? "Tax and Spend R Us" ought to be their motto.

This would be the dumbest tax in the history of America.

It would punish us because of where some of us live. We live on a dead end road with our nearest neighbor being 1 mile in any direction, and we love it. It's 18 miles to the nearest town. I drive 19 miles to work, while a couple guys I work with only have to drive 2 or 3 miles. I would be paying 6 to 8 times in taxes just to drive to work. My wife drives 25 miles to work, she would be paying as much as 25 times more in taxes than some of her co-workers.

We already pay more in taxes because we have to buy more fuel to get anything done because of where we live. At this point in time we consider it an acceptable concession because we love our home.

A tax that double dips us because of were we live would be unacceptable.

I have to admit that in all my years, I have yet to see an Administration that is so hellbent on putting the brakes to an ecomony that is already down to a snails pace. For Gods sake where do these people come from and who votes them into office? What the hell is the matter with have of this countries voting electorate. Is this some sort of a bad dream?

It's hilarious that the article states that the current administration doesn't support this tax, yet there willing to fund a $300 million study for it.
