Default You can' t keep the meat in Canada

with the USDA banning the entering of any wild game meat from Canada due to the recent out break of mad cow disease would you still go there to hunt. You are allowed to bring back antlers and capes under certain restrictions, I find it a waste to kill an animal just for the trophy aspect of the hunt and letting the meat go to waste I was going north to moose hunt in the fall I called the outfitter to cancel and was told I would lose my deposit. Just curious of others opinions.

Hummmmm if they can' t stop illegals from crossing down south what makes them think they keep those wild animals from crossing up north?

so what if you hunt near the border and a moose or deer cross the border and you shoot it. what do you do then ?

soark, there is a good article in the newest National Review about illegal immigration. It' s pretty maddening.

But on the mad cow, it has been in the U.S. for decades out west, it was (apprently) not considered a big deal. I hear in Colorado the deer there have had it for at least 20 years. They just do what we do in wisconsin, cull the herd when they detect it.

I' d have to think about that one. Filling your freezer with meat is a big part of the hunt. It' s enjoyable to cook meals with the meat you hunted and continues to give you a sense of satisfaction. I got a moose a few years ago in BC and brought the meat back and had it processed in CA. First time I' ve had moose and it' s pretty good. This might make some people go to Alaska instead so they can bring their meat home.

I would never shoot a deer, elk, or moose that I couldn' t eat! A bear, maybe!

I think I would still consider a hunt as long as I could stick around for a couple extra days and eat like a freekin pig until myself and my hunting partners and guides couldn' t eat anymore. Then I' d make sure the rest of the meat could be " donated" to a needy family or 2.

just think of the impact that an outbreak of madcow would have on the US. I wouldn' t allow meat to cross the border either. Were talking trillions of $$$$ to the economy.

The only problem with that is that moose, elk, and deer do not carry mad cow disease. They do carry Chronic Wasting Disease, which is already here anyway, probably has been for many generations, and isn' t causing much of a problem except in panicking Wisconsin.

Ben any cloven hoofed animal can potentialy carry madcow. When Great Britan broke with it they exterminated all farm animals including pig (non cloven hoofed) to make sure they got rid of the disease. They did this because pigs were fed bone meal as a part of their diet and this bone meal came from infected cattle.
