I don't really believe those numbers. I'm inclined to think the poll was rigged to make Republicans look like a bunch of redneck bigots.
Laws against racial intermarriage used to be fairly common. Even states like Maine, Michigan, and Pennsylvania barred marriage between blacks and whites. Many states even barred marriage between whites and asians, but those were mainly out west. In the South, only Georgia, Virginia and South Carolina barred marriage between whites and "non-whites." Missouri barred marriages of whites with blacks and asians.
I don't know why they had this thing against asians. We make really good wives.
I just don't believe that 46% of the Republicans in Mississippi believe it should be illegal. On the other hand, I can believe that a lot of people, even many people here, would not be happy about their daughter marrying someone of another race. But that's a different matter.
It should be noted that, based on some news reports I've read, the most dangerous husbands, at least as far as their daughters are concerned, seem to be those of Muslim persuasion, even though they're white.
