There are starving kids in every state. I view this as one school boards flawed vision for their district. In many cases a school board is made up of either 3 or 5 people and when they reach a quorum it is pretty easy to float almost anything past providing 2 out of 3 want it. Since the budget will increase I suspect the public will vote the school budget down and that will end it.

I think C.I. pretty much covered this one. Besides that is way mid Maine which borders the southern part of the state. Most us northerners would never agree with that part of the state any ways.

Seriously, starving kids? We now feed them breakfast, lunch and dinner even when school is on summer break. We now have school systems outlawing brown bagging. We spend so much on food stamps, state agencies advertise for clients just to spend down their budgets.

Phil, let us know how the school board fares in all of this. Sure sounds like they are a wash in cash if they can afford Ipads to kindergartners.

I'm really glad that I didn't have to eat the food while I was in school. We always had a pot of soup and leftover rice or noodles in the refrigerator and I would heat that up and put it in a thermos for lunch. I got my own breakfast too, usually the same as lunch. (Mama worked until 2AM so I got myself ready for school and she would get up to see me off and go back to bed for awhile.)

I will never understand why parents should not be held responsible for feeding their own kids. The idea that schools have to provide not only lunch, but breakfast too, is incomprehensible to me.

This looks like a manifestation of the "it takes a village" philosophy.

I feel pretty lucky. When I was in high school , Long long time ago, the food was pretty darn good. But I went to a really small school where the population of the town back then hadn't hit 400 people yet.
