I don’t know how to respond to something like that; when my kids were growing up we lived right across the street from a public school and had hoops less than 100 yards away.
If the hoops are in the street, the street belongs to the city and they have the right.

Grew up in a court. The basketball hoop is still there, despite once being knocked down by the garbage truck. They promptly came out and replaced it. Everyone from around the neighborhood still comes down to play a game after all these years.
