Default Idaho Bill Would Allow Wolf Kills To Go Unpunished!!

3/23/2011
BOISE, Idaho (AP) — Idaho lawmakers are advancing a bill to prohibit the state from investigating, arresting or prosecuting people who kill federally protected gray wolves.
Republican Rep. Phil Hart's bill also prohibits state employees from helping federal agencies to arrest or prosecute someone who kills a wolf.

The Lewiston Tribune reports the legislation cleared a House committee Monday but was put up for amendments.

The bill faces changes amid concerns it would prevent Idaho game wardens from even passing along information to their federal counterparts. State officials say that's a problem, considering wardens take oaths to cooperate with "all legally authorized agencies in the pursuit of justice.''

Wolves in the Northern Rockies are listed as endangered under court order, but state and federal officials have been looking for ways to curb their population.

Thread title not really accurate. Looks like the bill says state authorities don't have to turn over information to federal authorities. The "wolf killer" would still be punished IF he is caught by federal authorities. It is, after all, a federal violation, not a state violation.

Seems to me that the feds shouldn't get to have it both ways. They want to say "hey, immigration is OUR jurisdiction. We don't want the states to help enforce immigration laws." But, wolf laws? They want the local game wardens to help enforce those...

Exactly.

There should be a year round trapping season on Bruce Babbitt and the other perps who put the wolves out there.

Excellent point about the feds!!!

I wish they would pass a law like that here in Mn. with all the de-listing/re-listing that's been going over the last few years I don't know what there status is here right now. Which affected my reactions at about 7:45 pm this past Thursday night. Here's the story I posted on another hunting site about 20 minutes after it happened. I could have shot one wolf on two events of the whole crazy ordeal.

The way we have our computer set up all I have to do is look to the right to see out the window of our den. My dogs were going crazy so I looked out the window. My lab mix pup was really going wild so I immediately new there was something up, then I saw the silhouette of a third canine, I have 2 dogs.

I went running for the door, the only guns that were readily available on my way out were my carry piece, a 6+1 .380, and my SxS 12 gauge. As I ran down the driveway I saw the pack of at least 10 take off down the road, and I cut loose of both barrels over them to keep them moving.

My dumbazz pup thought it was a game and took off after them so I went running to the road firing a couple more shots from the .380. I yelled for my pup and he ran out of the woods just to turn around and run barking back into the woods. I fired a couple of more rounds and ran after him. I was about thirty yards in yelling his name when he came running towards me with a wolf hot on his heels, I fired 2 more rounds and the wolf turned and ran, and my dumbazz pup chased him again. So I ran further into the woods and am now about 50 yards in and here comes my pup again with his wolf in tow. The wolf stopped about 20yds from me and was broadside, I fired my last round over his back and off he went with my pup in hot pursuit. I stood there yelling for my pup, I heard a couple of barks and then what I thought was a yelp. I figured the pup was a goner, but I stood there yelling for him for about 5 minutes.

I headed back to the house to reload and grab a flashlight to see if I could go out there and figure out what happened. I get to the steps and there's my dumbazz pup sitting on the steps wagging his tail as if nothing had ever happened. Damn stoopid dog is lucky to be alive!!!

Edit: I got this pic off of the cams yesterday. The cam is only about 100 yards from the house.

I guess they didn't get the hint the other night. I caught this one on my other cam which is about 150 yards from my back door.
