Politics Nothing goes with politics quite like crying and complaining, and we're a perfect example of that.

Default WI Senate does the deed

They voted and passed the bill that strips State Employee Unions collective bargaining. They were smart and split the bill to remove the money piece. That means they didn't need the Dems to show up and work. Not like even when they show up they even work.

See what happens when you play by the rules? You win.

Had a Democrat done this, you would hear nothing about it on the news. What little coverage there might have been, would have touted it as good for the state. With a Republican in Office it will be the Death Nell of the Entire Nation.

Hurrah! At some point the spin loses and reality wins out. This is a good move for Wisconsin and the people of Wisconsin. Let's see what happens during the next Wisconsin election cycle. Will Republicans win a bigger share of representation in the house and senate in Wisconsin -- hence countenancing this whole manoeuvre -- or will the Democrats make serious in roads into the Republican majorities, thereby repudiating the manoeuvre? Maybe over time Wisconsin can introduce sensible economics and build up their business environment -- that is, the sector of the economy that produces jobs and generates revenues that ultimate fund all the government.

But it takes a long time to restore business confidence. I bought two Fords -- a 1988 Ford Taurus that essentially self-destructed after it hit 85000 miles and a 1994 Ford Aerostar that didn't last much beyond 11000 miles. Those two experiences were enough: I'll never buy another Ford. Fool me once, shame on you; fool me twice, shame on me; fool me three times . . . not a chance, baby. So, if you are a business thinking about setting up shop, do you consider Wisconsin? Maybe you want to see them establish a track record first of nurturing a positive business climate before you commit. In the meantime, my bet is more people wanting to open businesses that aren't inherently tied to a specific place are still going to locate in other states that have a long standing business friendly environment, such as Texas.

It is a matter of perspective. La Rochefoucauld had a maxim that went something like "we borrow according to our hopes, we lend according to our fears." This is germane. If you got a stack of money you are going to invest in establishing a new business, you are going to be making that decision largely based on your fears. What could happen that I don't want to happen? Worst case and things go south, how do I get my money out of this thing? What CAN happen? How many different ways can this augur in? Unless the money is inherited money. If the money is money you built up yourself, you've been around the track a few times and you know what can happen and, as I suggest, you are wanting to minimize the risks.

There must have been one very loud "DOH" in Illinois when the Wisconsin democrats got the news!

The Dem leader was just belly aching on Gretta. What a joke. He has no class.

The WI Democrats undertook a sneaky trick to thwart the will of the people -- the elected majority of Republicans -- and the WI Republicans largely turned the sneaky trick against them. Bravo! Well played sir!

That's weird... My 89 Mustang has 170,000 miles, and aside from the battery and clutch, the only repairs have been more "recreational" in nature, than necessary (although, adding 100 hp did cause my tranny to go out earlier than it otherwise would have), our 90 Taurus has about 120,000 on it and my son drives it every day to school and work, and my 2008 F150 is approaching 25,000 with no problems at all... My other son has a 99 F150 with 80,000 miles that runs like new.

I've been a Ford guy for a while... My first car (in 1975) was a 73 Chevy Vega GT that was a piece of cr~p. Traded it for a 71 Ford Torino GT that I loved...

On the other hand, my wife's 2001 Dodge Intrepid spun a bearing at 80,000. My wife's 2008, which has 12,000 miles on it has had to have the door lock actuators replaced on 3 of the 4 doors.

Same here. My current Ranger has 47k on it, not a whole lot admittedly, but other than the usual maintenance stuff, it (knock on wood) runs just fine. My other Ranger also ran great until some jag off kid decided to drive his daddies car under the back of the truck to see how high he could spin me and my wife around...

And bravo to the Wisconsin Republicans!
