Politics Nothing goes with politics quite like crying and complaining, and we're a perfect example of that.

Default Kudos to Algore...

Don't hear something like that from me very often...

I was doing some channel surfing last night and hit a show on Gore's "CurrentTV" network called "Kill It, Cook It, Eat It." It was late and I was kind of drifting in and out, but, the premise of the show, which is based out of Scotland, was that they gathered an assortment of folks, vegans and vegetarians, to meat eaters who have never hunted, to hunters, and they take them through the whole process from learning to handle a firearm, to hunting game, to skinning and butchering what they killed, to cooking and eating. Hands on process for the folks all the way through. There was what seemed to be a pretty fair discussion of the issues from all sides, all the way from the idiots who proclaim it to be "murder" through a discussion of the necessity to control populations to prevent crop damage, starvation, disease, etc.. The two episodes that I saw involved hunting rabbits and red stag. The lady hosting the show clearly seemed to lean pro-hunting. I think there are also duck hunting and grouse hunting episodes and it looks like they've got a few episodes taking them all the way through the process for farm raised animals as well.

I bet if you watched the whole thing, it would have a vegan lean, or at the very least, and antigun message. I do not know this from experience, but look at the source. He would piss off all his followers if he presented anything balanced.

That's kind of what I was looking for as I watched, but, it never materialized. They had a professional from the estate where they hunted teaching them how to shoot, and acting as guide during the "deer stalking." It was actually three girls who beat out the other folks in competition for the right to try to shoot a red stag, and I think it was a vegetarian who actually shot it. There were, of course, tears in the eyes of some for the death of such a beautiful creature, but... others who commented for example that following the experience he'd start eating meat four times a day instead of the usual three. One of the Vegans made a comment along the lines of "if you're going to eat meat, this is the way to do it. Seemed humane. The deer didn't suffer. All natural..." And, like I said, the lady who was hosting seemed to be pretty clearly pro-hunting, or at least pro-having-the-choice-to-hunt-if-that's-your-thing. There were some comments on differentiating simple "trophy hunting" from those who hunt and eat what they kill, and whenever it was mentioned, the host stated that the meat was then "sold on" by the estate. All in all, I thought it was a pretty fair presentation.

Note that they even did the blood on the cheeks to the vegetarian girl who had just shot her first stag...

I don't know... I went into it kind of looking for a reason to take a verbal shot at the guy, but, like I said... it seemed to be a pretty fair presentation. Nobody on either side was belittled, marginalized, or made to "look like a fool." While most dined on the game, special vegan plates were prepared if those folks didn't want to partake. A vegetarian girl went into it with the attitude to the effect that "if I am able to kill a deer, I will give up vegetarianism. If I can't, then I'll probably stay a veg." I'm not sure what her ultimate decision was.

Wow..... Y'know...even in the best-run companies something always falls thru the cracks.
For all we know, Al Gore could be fuming and blowing a gasket of the airing of that show.....heheheeh

Seriously, I applaud you on being fair minded and even-handed in evaluating this show. I'd not have been so nice...just keep clicking that flipper till I'm past the Gore network....
