So tell me, how useless is Obama on the world stage? I was young when Carter was in office and just beginning to pay attention, was he even worst or is Obama setting new records?
Tell me, if you are Kaddafy or his minions, are you really afraid of curious george?

I'm kind of in the same place as you....back then I did not 'pay attention' to politics but nowadays, I can say I do. Obama; I do not know how he is perceived in the Middle East....his name is steeped in Muslim theocracy. Certain indications are that he 'apes' being a friend of muslims but falls short in their eyes. Welcome to the club, dirt monkeys ! I can only conclude he has hurt the American image in that part of the region by showcasing American inconsistency (one Middle Eastern leader quipped, when Barry the Baboon called for Mubarak to step down, that the Americans have just stabbed their greatest ally in the back) and weakness. The Euro-trash openly laughs at him and us (at least they did so in Italy when I was there back in October). I don't know if Carter was as openly derided..or held in such low esteem abroad...but I've never heard public comments about Carter as we hear about Barry the Baboon. Carter was roundly criticized for his "disaster inthe desert' failed attempt at rescuing the American hostages in Iran....
Folks in the middle east respect strength and Obama is anything but. GW showed strength and that went a long way. No one respects Obama. He's to busy floundering as president. Paying off his supporters. Now he's trying to figure out how to hold onto power in 2012.
On a side note, it was my squadron's Helos that got blown up in the failed attempt. It actually ended up being a day of failed execution. That lead to the disaster. They got to the staging zone down the 2 spare Helos. One made it back to the ship, the other went down along the way, mechanical problems blamed on the fine sand. They got to the staging area at dawn when they were suppose to be making their way into the city at that time for the surprise assault. So they decided to abort the attempt. So when the ground crew was directing the first help for take off, the down wash on the CH53s is so great, it created a blinding mini sand storm for the airman. He moved over to avoid it. That's when the pilot looked up and thought he had drifted over. So he corrected his drift right into one of the C130s on the ground. Both exploded and fearing discovery, they all abandoned the Helos and climbed into the remaining C130. The Bedouins discovered the Helos and were in the process of stripping them when the guard flew over. So the guard opened fire on them and ended up killing their own people.
The S/N plates to the Helos were removed before the mission and had remained at my squadron's hanger for the longest time. Then after years, they were sent to the museum in Pensacola, FL for display. I've never seen them. I've only seen the picture of them that they hung after shipping them off. One day I plan on making the trek to that museum.

amazing story ! Carter was also seen as weak....there's a parallel that seems to point to the fact that a jellyfish at the helm results in chaos in that part of the world...at least for the U.S.

I am in the same boat. I did not care much about politics in the 70s. Only way I could compare the two is in two years after Obama is gone. I can look back on his record and Carters and make a judgement.

if you look back, carter was the last weak democrat liberal president we had......30 years later we have obama.......my theory is it takes about 30 years for all the people who lived thru it to forget it, and you have enough new voters in the system who will fall for the "hope change love peace koombayah" message to vote them into office. After obama you will see another string of strong right wing presidents until another 30 years goes by.

Well, I hope you're right....except for the part about the next pinkoe to come down the pike 30 years hence.....
