Politics Nothing goes with politics quite like crying and complaining, and we're a perfect example of that.

Default Firefighter Refused Call To Gifford Shooting

Corrected:

A Tucson firefighter refused to respond to the Gifford shooting, citing different political views from the other members of his response team. i think he should be fired.

Quote:
TUCSON, Ariz. (AP) — A veteran firefighter refused to respond to last month's deadly shooting spree that left Rep. Gabrielle Giffords wounded because of "political bantering," and it may have delayed his unit's assignment to help, according to internal city memos.

The Arizona Daily Star reported Thursday that firefighter Mark Ekstrum's team, which is specially trained to handle large medical emergencies, was dispatched to assist 90 minutes after the Jan. 8 shooting. The newspaper obtained the memos about the incident through a public records request.

While the crew was not among those first called to the supermarket where six people were killed and 13 others wounded, a memo from Ekstrum's supervisor said his actions caused "confusion and delay" during the emergency.

One of the fire engines from Ekstrum's station had to stop at another station to pick up personnel to take his place, according to the Star.

Ekstrum, a 28-year veteran of the Tucson Fire Department, retired two days after the incident while his supervisors were still considering how to discipline him.

While I agree that he should have done his damned job, I think you have mischaracterized what happened. His "political views" were not "different from those of Gifford." They were different from the rest of the crew he was working with. He voted FOR Giffords.

Also, if I'm reading the article correctly, there was no adverse effect to any of those who were wounded, as this crew was not even called out until after all the injured had already been removed to the hospital.

Saying that he didn't go because he disagreed with Giffords sounds a whole lot worse...

No problem... You had the same thought I did when I first saw the headline. Who would have thought the press would go for "sensationalism..."

Honest mistake any of us could have made. But this IS the Politics section. We should argue about SOMETHING before the thread fades to the back pages...

Well, OK. i think that Teddy Kennedy was a great legislator. We need a special holiday in his honor. We can do away with Thanksgiving and have a
Senator Ted Kennedy day.

We could have gay/lesbian floats, a one armed bartender contest, a prestigious award for new gun control proposals and a Barney Frank look alike contest.

Hey falcon, you were being easy on the guy... Here's what a "liberal" thinks:

Quote:
I call for this jackass to be stripped of all pension and benefits. This is NOT how a firefighter conducts themselves. I demand the city of Tuscan to sue this ass for everything he's worth, PLUS every single dollar they paid him since he began working for them. If a cop didn't respond, there would be hell to pay, and this is no different. This isn't even a person, this is an unperson, not worthy of being grouped together with humans. He should be thrown into the middle of hostile territory after having acid dumped on him and left there to die.

To think that a gun hating peaceful liberal would say something like that. That cop failing to respond remark made by the liberal: There have been several well known cases where cops in northeastern cities failed to respond.

Yep... Did you see the stuff where libs were calling for Clarence Thomas to be "back in the fields" or "cut his toes off and feed them to him" or "he and his wife should be strung up"...
