Politics Nothing goes with politics quite like crying and complaining, and we're a perfect example of that.

Default U.S. Ingenuity will ALWAYS win the day....

These boys will wean us off of foreign oil, DESPITE the government's best attempts to keep them from success. Government is NOT the answer, it's part of the problem....

The EPA is already gearing up to put a halt to it....the contention will be that the chemicals being pumped into the ground in the oil recovery effort can seep into groundwater and poison wells. Watch and see how this develops...the 'tree huggers' will stop it, with government compliance. So we can't drill on land or in the sea. Sweet ! Say hello to $7 a gallon gasolene when Egypt goes helter-skelter....

and so it starts. Hopefully, the government will be stable. If there's turmoil and they close Suez, we're up the creek.
I work from home so I don't have a daily commute but it's gonna suck to pay 25 bucks for a tank of gas every time I mow my lawn ! Gonna have to start a 'victory garden' so I can afford to eat...

Unfortunately, the energy department doesn't know how to coordinate this into an effective energy policy. Standing alone, this probably doesn't do us a lot of good.

But if it were combined with an effective farm policy that promoted biofuels, then we are capable of not only reducing our dependence on foreign oil, but kicking the habit all together.

Unfortunately, U.S. farm policy has been largely devoted to corn-based ethanol production. This will never work well because corn is one of the lowest-yielding biofuel crops, and ethanol is not as efficient as gasoline in engines. Switchgrass and other methods of producing ethanol are much more efficient because they produce large amounts of ethanol at a much lower input rate.

Biodiesel is a better option, as it can be used without a loss of efficiency. Crops like rapeseed and sunflowers can yield close to 100 gallons of biodiesel an acre, on crops that required less than 10 gallons per acre to produce.

Energy policy ? THere's an energy policy ? I mean, besides 'no drillin' 'no nukes' and 'let's get off foreign oil' rhetoric, the 'policy' is to not have a policy.

I wonder tho...are we capable of producing sufficient biodiesel to meet our needs, even with switchgrass ? I remember a couple years algae farming was touted as all the rage and THE technology to solve our woes...

Unemployment in North Dakota has fallen to the lowest level in the nation, 3.8 percent — less than half the national rate of 9 percent. The influx of mostly male workers to the region has left local men lamenting a lack of women. Convenience stores are struggling to keep shelves stocked with food.
Just need some consession? trucks full of women & food

Watched a few shows on N dakota- on tv called boomtown( was intresting)
Have some of that going on in the S east part of wy- one of the reasons our unemployments down some- but not as low as it was in 08 & previous about (3 % rate then) or ND,s.

Same as fracking right this method? The method bloomberg- told them they better not do in ny & that the greenies dont like.

ND boom is on private lands ( federal lands could be used also ... almost 50% of wy is that & utahs more , NV AK is even higher % of federal lands)650 million acres or so of public lands in the west
