Default ain't she just a nightingale ?

Catch Christina Aguilera's rendition of our National Anthem on Sunday ?

I can only hope it was as painful for her to squeal it, as it was for the rest of us to watch it....

I hate singers who, when singing the National Anthem, try to "make it their own..." Even more so when making it their own involves changing the lyrics. Taking a one syllable word and turning it into one of those note changing 15 syllable words is insane. It's not "her own." The National Anthem belongs to all of us. It's supposed to be a source of pride and unity. She's got a great voice. Sing it the way it was meant to be sung and everyone would love it.

Completely agree. I covered this topic in the Campfire section the night of the Superbowl. IMO there is a correct way to sing the National Anthem. "Artistic interpretations" do not render the proper respect the National Anthem deserves.

I do not and have never held my hand over my heart during the Nat'l Anthem. I always hold my hands behind my back. Does that burn your azz b/c I don't do it the same way as you?

I have always associated hand over heart to be done during the pledge of allegiance, not the anthem. Actually I just looked up official etiquette, and hand over heart is appropriate for the anthem. Though I haven't held my hand over heart during it, I have always considered my stand at attention a salute.

You're doing it wrong. From the U.S. Code:

Quote:
TITLE 36, Subtitle I, Part A, Chapter 3, Section 301:

§ 301. National anthem

(a) Designation.— The composition consisting of the words and music known as the Star-Spangled Banner is the national anthem.

(b) Conduct During Playing.— During a rendition of the national anthem—

(1) when the flag is displayed—

(A) individuals in uniform should give the military salute at the first note of the anthem and maintain that position until the last note;

(B) members of the Armed Forces and veterans who are present but not in uniform may render the military salute in the manner provided for individuals in uniform; and

(C) all other persons present should face the flag and stand at attention with their right hand over the heart, and men not in uniform, if applicable, should remove their headdress with their right hand and hold it at the left shoulder, the hand being over the heart; and

(2) when the flag is not displayed, all present should face toward the music and act in the same manner they would if the flag were displayed.

Actually Im not so much offended by people not putting their hand over their chest, as I am with some 300lb gorrilla w/ a rag on his head, jumping up and down during it. Also, people hootn and hollering during the nat. anthem when the camera is on some jackass FB player, they like. these people have no class! where did they grow up, that they think this is acceptable behavior?

Aside from general "respect for others", what is the proper way for a non-American to behave during the National Anthem? I would imagine that they would stand quietly?

Sports teams are more and more world-wide, especially hockey.
