Politics Nothing goes with politics quite like crying and complaining, and we're a perfect example of that.

But isn't there a huge budget surplus in NYC?

Three times ELECTED.....that says it all folks. One has to understand that there are more people in NYC then their are in all of Canada. With such a voting block, their is no way in Gods Green Acres that there would ever be hope to vote out the llikes of even Shumer. The number of workers in this state that recieve a government check is higher then the total of all others employed privately. When NYC passes gas.....Upstate NY smells it. Their is no way that Marios kid Andrew is going to be able to get this State out of the red, when it was his party that ran up the tab. This State is flat out broke, with absolutely no hope what so ever of being able to cut the spending enough to put us on the road to stability. Higher taxes may prove to be a reality in the not to distant future.

There is no hope for NY City. It has been corrupt for too long and the voters there like it that way.

It would be nice if we could cut the federal purse strings on cities like NYC, chicago, san-fran, etc. rather than have them drag down the entire country.

LBR, it would be nice to fully cut those p
Aces off, but you know that won't completely happen. However, the Republicans have been firm, NO BAILOUTS for the states. Cities can go bankrupt. All NYC needs to do is actually tax their citizens. 40k people pay the bills for millions. That's a recipe for disaster and is why they are where they are.

The US government has bailed out NY City for decades. The last bailout occured last December when Republicans in the US senate rolled over and allowed the passage of legislation that takes care of firefighters and others who were sickened during the cleanup of the WTC site.

HazMat cleanup is one of the things that i do. Those firefighters went to work every day without proper personal protective equipment (PPE). They had to kinow that they were supposed to wear PPE including Tyvex and respirators at that site because they are the resident experts in HazMat.

Resident heroes do not look good on camera when they are wearing Tyvek and a respirator.

Lots of NY City firefighters now claim that they were sickened by the mess at the WTC. i don't doubt that some were sickened by their working in an environment that included airborne asbestos, toxic metals and vaporized human flesh-all without proper PPE.

Our own OK senator Coburn thought it was a good idea to give away money to people who got sick through their own neglect. Yep, it's just peanuts at $4.3 billion.

Quote:
One of the main critics of the original House bill, Senator Tom Coburn, Republican of Oklahoma, expressed satisfaction with the legislation’s final cost.

“Every American recognizes the heroism of the 9/11 first responders,” Mr. Coburn said. “But it is not compassionate to help one group while robbing future generations of opportunity.”

Hmm, so that equals a bailout for the entire city?

In a word- yes. Had the US gov't not bailed NY City out the NYC taxpayers would have footed the bill.

I think various ways & means are used to fund( bail out, funnel money into) the big citys. Im sure some are not new. Various programs , grants & funds from the fed( and or subsidized by .( just as we pour money into africa yrly, besides the more noticable large block gifts of multi billion dollar chunks of change.

Millions( in just start up costs?) dosnt seem a very impressive number anymore ( inflation i guess)- but they add up to billions pretty quick.

Just doing the only real things he knows i guess.

Spending/ getting the taxpayer money as a community organizer.
