Politics Nothing goes with politics quite like crying and complaining, and we're a perfect example of that.

Default Is this employer experience universal ??

I' m curious, I have worked for some of the biggest azzhole companies on earth and cannot fathom the depth of depravity and childishness that goes on. I' m wondering if any of you have had years and years and years of this type of crap going on:

- director of engineering can' t get security clearance, he' s scared for his job. he promotes only people that either kiss his azz or worked with him at a prior company (magnetek).

- performs felonies such as telling you if you don' t sign an unfavorable (and false) review he' ll terminate you (signing self incriminating documents under duress is a felony). Once you tell upper management about this, you find out they are just as corrupt.

- actually fills out a form with tons of libelous garbage after you mention in passing that you would consider suing someone for libel if they put this stuff in your personnel file. - this idiot did this! and he handed it off to my manager (the idiot is 3 levels of management above me) to put in my personnel file, but my manager knows better, he dropped the subject and told the moron that he did in fact put it in there.

- he pits coworkers politically against each other. If he hates you, and you are more qualified than your good friend at work, he promotes your friend to a position above you.

This type of crap has been my corporate experience all my life, worst experience was a mom and pop board house where a manager would actually swing at people. Second worst was General Electric - they are bastards.

This place is getting to be a tie with G.E.

Anyone else experience this type of corporate hell ???

Day-um, FNG!! [][:' (]

I don' t have that mess where I work (thank God).... I just have young candy-a$$ college punk engineers from VA Tech try to talk down to me. They learn quickly that it is not wise to anger a retired military veteran! [:@]

fng, I' ve always worked at smaller places so I don' t know. Right now, our place has about 50 employees, and I never see half of them, since they are on the road all the time.

I' ve never really worked in that type of sector long enough or high enough to be effected by such things.
In the PD there was always some type of inter circle or old boys club and then Affirmative Action. All types of favoritism no matter how you look at it.
I had jerks from time to time that I had to answered to and it made life uncomforable for awhile but I always just worked throught it. I know that isn' t always that easy or even possible.
When I was a supervisor I always attempted to be honest and fair. I worked with my staff, they did not work for me.
The greatest compliment I had ever recieved regarding work was this past Feb when a group of fellows I broke in on the job years ago were at a wild game dinner with me and our sons. A couple of the guys introduced me to their sons and stated," This is that guy I' d follow through the gates of Hell. I know he wouldn' t leave anybody behind."

That made me feel great . I never wanted to make anybody who really work with me and did their best to feel bad or go home hating the job. Only arsehole do that, it makes them feel better about their own sorry lives

Must just be an engineering thing in wisconsin then. I don' t know. I told this bastard 4x to fire me - but they won' t.

Software manager is a cool guy, he' s very intelligent and very level headed and he doesn' t play politics - i' m responsible for getting him into the position he' s in (director of software for about 10 divisions) and he knows it. He is the only reason I don' t go on a " spree' in the place, his advice to me is always the same " <CRAPHEAD MANAGER> has his laser eyes on the azz above him, never take this place seriously, they' ll never fire you - they like seeing you squirm, go home and have a drink" . ...

I like ron he' s a hoot.

Hey fng, you ever think that maybe all the cause of your professional duress is that you' re a jerk?

Actually, I experience a little bit of it now at my job. Two of the guys, one my manager, the other the lead technician for the in-house guys, are the old-boys club. They started when our department fixed typewriters, dictaphones, and mail-sorting machines instead of PC' s, printers, routers, and networks.

They' re resentful of the fact that they don' t know jack about their jobs now.

Trust me, you don' t know what you' re talking about. I don' t **** ****, this bothers alot of people, I don' t see a need to **** ****..... If you' re competent and are willing to do a good (and in my case above average big time) job.... why should you be **** on for being good because you' re not in a clique???

Guess you' re in that " clique" you work at. " my buddy or you go to hell?

Please try to refrain from expletives, or phrases that explicit....we go out of our way to allow a certain freedom in this forum but.....lets not abuse it. Thanks.....

Guess I have been lucky. For the first 15 years after school I was the top of the foodchain. The only $hit I had to put up with was my own.

The last 8 years I have worked for a rather large global company, and can honestly say that things are done pretty much on the up and up around here.

In fact, butt kissing usually works against you here.

Just the normal " Dilbert" type stuff. I' ve had a couple real good managers I' ve worked for. Most are okay. A few rank up or down there as ones you have to watch your back with.

Most of the b.s. I deal with is more the messed up processes or lack there of and administrative baloney that we have to deal with. It used to bug me a whole lot more. Sometimes I still tell my wife to be ready if I come home and tell her I quit. But it seems that that goes through cycles, too. Some of the people I have most trouble with either move on to other companies or other departments where I don' t have to deal with them.
