Tea partiers call for military budget cuts, posing dilemma for some lawmakers

— "Tea partiers clamoring for the debt-ridden government to slash spending say nothing should be off limits. Tea party-backed lawmakers echo that argument, and they're not exempting the military's multibillion-dollar budget in a time of war.
That demand is creating hard choices for the newest members of Congress, especially Republicans who owe their elections and solid House majority to the influential grass-roots movement. Cutting defense and canceling weapons could mean deep spending reductions and high marks from tea partiers as the nation wrestles with a $1.3 trillion deficit. Yet it also could jeopardize thousands of jobs when unemployment is running high.
Proponents of the cuts could face criticism that they're trying to weaken national security in a post-Sept. 11 world.
House Republican leaders specifically exempted defense, homeland security and veterans' programs from spending cuts in their party's "Pledge to America" campaign manifesto last fall.
But the House's new majority leader, Rep. Eric Cantor, R-Va., has said defense programs could join others on the cutting board."
So what's the probelm? Bush was wise to keep the wars off the books because it was temporary spending. The Dems put it on the books and into the defense bill so they could hide their slush fund increases. So since the Dems been in charge they have just across the board increased the defense budgets to pay off their donors. Its time to decrease the defense budget and take the war funding out of it.

"AP: In an unusual political pairing, liberal Rep. Barney Frank, D-Mass., and Rep. Ron Paul of Texas, a libertarian and former Republican presidential candidate, have joined forces in pushing for substantial reductions in the defense budget, including closing some of the 600-plus military bases overseas."
Now this I like, if we're gonna cut then hop to it.
If done wisely,
(lol govt actions done wisely? sorry laughing at myself for that)
am all for it,
govt cuts should be across the board,
am all for giving military priority,
but like any govt agency lots of fraud/abuse/waste in defense spending same as with other spending.
Don't know what you're looking for. Like I said, the wars were off the books from the regular budget. Then when then they got put into the regular budget. This allows the dems to keep the budgeted amount year you year. Even if the war spending decreases, the money is still on the books. Furthermore, budget time comes around and they increase it by say 5%. They get to increase 600B by 5% instead of 500b. See the difference?

I truly hate to see any programs cut, everyone needs an income and a job, but, we've over-spent for so many years that its time to pays our bills and get back to "zero" ASAP.
Its that away for a household and should be that way for our gov. My wife and I have seen some SERIOUS pay cuts over the last 2 years and we work in the private sector. We are thankful to still have our jobs, but hey, If we can stand a cut in pay and survive, so can a lot of other areas. We'll all have to sacrifice if our debt is to ever be paid as a nation.
I truly hate to see any programs cut, everyone needs an income and a job,
not a government job. The government produces nothing. It is a complete drag on our economy. Every government job represents money that first had to be taken from somebody who earned it and redirected and spent where it's use is less than the best possible use, in other words, less than maximum return on investment. Government doesn't spend money wisely and can't pick winners and losers very well. Only you know what's best for you money and what products you need to buy.
