Politics Nothing goes with politics quite like crying and complaining, and we're a perfect example of that.

Default And we get screwed again

I' m so hacked off right now, and I knew it was going to happen.

A little background for those who care.

In Wisconsin, taxes are beyond control. We' re consistently in the top five highest taxed states, and we get essentially nothing for it, other than two sweaty, lazy government hogs pick up our trash instead of one.

The problem in the state is that the State overtaxes us, then ships it off to the local governments for them to spend. Which they do. Like most states, we faced a " budget shortfall" this year, which translated means, " We' d really like to spend this money but we don' t have it." So a budget was passed that cut funding to local municipalities and towns. The Republicans realized that in response to this, local governments would just jack up the property tax levy to make up for the difference. So they decided to enact a property tax freeze so local governments couldn' t do this. The only way they could raise property taxes would be through a referendum.

Now our Governer, who in his campaign, promised not to raise taxes, has vetoed that portion of the budget. Also he killed a plan to make senior citizens pay just a little bit more for their prescription cocktails, and fully restored funding for 4-year old kindergarten.

Then he had the stones to say this..." [this] will strip municipalities of local control and force painful cuts at Wisconsin schools." What an absolute crock. The property tax freeze was the ultimate in local control. If the people think that their taxes need to go up, they can vote on it in a referendum.

So now, according to the borderline communist paper in town...
" The nonpartisan Legislative Fiscal Bureau has estimated property taxes could increase as much as 9.4% as local governments and schools try to make up the cuts Doyle had proposed in his version of the budget in February.

The agency estimates the average property tax bill would have increased 1% in December under the Republican-controlled Legislature' s proposal, which Doyle vetoed."

Hopefully the Senate will do their job and override this ape with a law degree.

I don' t know what dollar amount that figures into for you, but for me a 9% property tax increase would be about $300 a year and I would be outraged!!!!

For me that would be an increase of about $250.

Problem is that it all goes to the teacher' s union. The property taxes around here are insane.

Our governor " owes" the lefty scum WEAC teacher' s union and the ultra lefty scum tribes that donated tons of money to his campaign in exchange for unlimited gaming rights.

Doyle is an azzhole of monumental proportions - I KNEW he was going to do this.

Don' t go so far, just heard that Plale said he might " have" to vote to override.

He' s hardly in a swing district, and if he' s worried, others just might be.

First off,. a 9% property tax increase would cast me about $500.00 !!!!
Second, I think we all know that Jim " far to the left" Doyle, is a one termer.
Third, call your senator and representative, especially if they are democrats, and tell them to vote to override this veto !! This is the only way we' re going to get this done. Doyle just doesn' t care !!!! He' s got his one term and now hes telling the people " screw you" !!! No taxes increases at all, ya right !!!!!

You' re right carp, I' m getting hacked off too !!!!

The tax freeze thing is only part of this scumbags screw job.
The 4K ( Four year old kindergarten) pay off to the teacher union really sucks big time.
Some dumbass teacher getting $50,000 for 8.5 months a year for baby sitting 4 year olds. Nice job of pay back for contributions and union votes.
It would be cheaper and more efficient to subsidize daycare through greater tax credits. Hire out of work people to work in day care units, creating jobs, reducing cost and more than likely better service and it could be for 12 months of the year.

I plan on e-mailing my view, how my vote is attached to the outcome of the override by my representatives vote on thie issue

Well I e-mailed both my State Sen. and my State Rep on Friday. Today at about 4:00PM I got a phone call from Sen. Carpenter and we talked about some of the vetoes. He is going to vote to over ride the Diamond Jim"™s veto of the tax freeze but not K4 or the school choice issue.
He stated he got a lot of correspondence on the school choice from people who want it totally eliminated so he isn' t going to fight the issue if that"™s what the vocal constituents want. He also feels K4 is a good head start program and already sees good things coming from it.
Although I don' t agree with him on two of three, he did take the time to call and attempt to save my vote and we do agree on one issue. That' s better than nothing.

One thing on the school choice issue. Under the current program as soon as a family income goes above the accepted level the kids are required to either leave the private school or pay for it totally. That doesn' t make sense pulling a kid out of any school mid year. We did agree on that and he is going to see if they can work on that part of the issue.
I do believe they have seen a sliver of light. Let' s see how long the pressure last and how long they take people like me seriously.
